Tom and Jerry, while cute and arguably one of the all-time favorite kids’ shows, definitely didn’t do justice to dog-cat friendships. So, don’t let the ultimate stigma deceive you – dogs can live with cats, and cats can surely live with dogs. All they need is proper socialization. Nellie and Crush don’t just do “living.”…

Maria’s life was anything but easy. This sweet girl had so much to give, yet her previous owners threw it all away. Instead of embracing her loving nature and sweet spirit, they abandoned her in the most brutal way. Sadly, Maria was discarded in an alleyway like trash. Her condition was far from good. She…

Losing a pet, even for only a few hours, is a traumatic experience. Now, imagine the heartbreak Bishop’s owner had to endure when his four-legged buddy was stolen on a subway in New York City. Shocked to the core, the owner desperately scanned the entire area, but to no avail. He lost all track of…

I always feel horrible when I see stray pups on the street who are struggling, but one thing that breaks my heart even more is seeing dogs with advanced health conditions. That’s even worse. These pups not only have to struggle with finding food and shelter, but their medical conditions make everything much harder. If…

Every once in a while, I come across a dog story that just makes my blood boil. Sometimes, it just shows how careless and cruel some people can be. There is no possible reason to explain why someone should hurt an innocent animal. They have done nothing wrong, but some people just don’t care. What…

It’s always been hilarious to see how other animals react to dogs. For some reason, a lot of them are drawn to our furry companions. Maybe it’s because they can sense that dogs are very friendly and generally just want to make friends wherever they can, or maybe it’s something else. Either way, small moments…

While a kind-hearted man was walking down the street in the Bronx, New York, he spotted something that broke his heart. A little black dog was curled up on the streets between two cars and was trembling with cold. The man rushed to her aid. Once he realized that the doggo was tied to a…

I have always held a firm belief that no matter what happens to a dog in their life, they always deserve a chance to be loved and cared for by someone. If they were abused and end up sometimes lashing out at humans, or if they are just old and sick, they can still recover…

Alexina Bonnaventure has always liked the idea of having a dog. Her husband, however, did not share her enthusiasm.  The two went back and forth discussing the idea of adding a four-legged member to their family, but something always seemed to come up. Anthony, the husband, often claimed it wasn’t a good time or that…

Unfortunately, it seems as though we keep failing our furry friends time and time again. There are so many stray animals roaming around the streets, and instead of offering them a helping hand, many hoomans tend to treat them with cruelty. That is why I am so thankful when I see those kind animal rescuers…

What makes a dog look mean is just beyond my understanding. Yet, whenever people looked at Sully, a 5-month-old Pittie, they saw this “mean, aggressive bully,” leading them to avoid him at all costs. All they really had to do was spend five minutes with him. That’s right! Five minutes is all it would have…

Caramel roamed the streets, fighting to survive and hoping to finally meet a kind human who would help him. When rescuers saved him and brought him to Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California, Caramel felt timid. The shelter environment was stressful and noisy. As days passed, the pup made friends with the staff and volunteers,…

Stray dogs usually like to find shelter in places where they feel no one will bother them. A lot of the time, that is in some isolated building or just a corner on the street. However, not all dogs are the same. Some pups like to stay in odd places filled with people, and the…

Losing your furry friend can be one of the hardest things a pet owner can go through.  Spending all those moments with them, watching them learn new things, sleeping in all those different positions, or even just looking out the window becomes a part of your daily routine that, knowing you no longer have it,…

Nowadays, many dogs suffer in sometimes unimaginable conditions, but we don’t understand their pain until we see it with our own eyes.  However, some people know very well what this means and they are the big-hearted rescuers who, almost every day, come upon a poor dog in need who went through a lot in his…

Getting used to shelter life isn’t easy, especially if you’re a small pup coming from the street and you’ve never felt the kind touch of a human!  When Peaches and Layla, together with their 7-year-old mom, Lady, first entered their shelter home, they were terrified of the new environment. The puppies were highly insecure when…

There are no better moments for the dog and its owner than when they go for a walk in the evening and visit familiar places.  Stella, an 8-year-old German Shorthair Pointer, and her owner, Gary Overman, know this best because they do that almost every day and enjoy it from the bottom of their hearts. …

His life journey, starting from the very beginning, was nothing short of a huge miracle.  Still, Ralph had many obstacles. His early puppyhood days…

The bond between siblings is the most powerful thing you will ever come across. Apart from it giving you a built-in best friend for life, you also have somebody who will stick by your side through thick and thin.  They’re your partner in crime, your first rival, and your forever teammate. No matter how much…

We all know that dogs are really big fans of their food. I mean, it’s one of the most important things in their lives. No matter how much you feed them, they will always go for more. One of the most difficult things to do in life is eating while your dog is sitting next…

Only dogs truly understand what it feels like to be in a cold, dark place without the chance to experience human touch, let alone a hug or anything more. Life in a shelter can be like that, and in some cases, even worse. Unfortunately, more and more of our furry friends are ending up in…

I have to be honest: I don’t think I have ever heard a case of a dog being put through laboratory tests in my life. It just sounds so wrong on every level. When you really think about it, these pups have to go through so much. They don’t understand why any of it is…

One day, the workers at the Barrow County Animal Control met a little puppy who seemed to be the runt of the litter.  Because of his open fontanelle, his mother kept rejecting him. So, hoping to help him, his owners decided it would be best if they surrendered him to the shelter where he could…

Corgis. More like Quirkies, am I right? Okay, but underneath their mischief and quirky behavior must be a hidden quality. There is! If you ask me, Corgis are an endless source of entertainment. That’s probably the number-one reason why owners fall in love with them so easily. Simon is no exception! In fact, he’s not…

Every dog has the innate need to be loved. Sadly, shelters are full of canines who keep waiting for someone to notice them and give them the love they deserve. Squirrel is one of the sweet shelter dogs who dreams of finding her person.  She used to have a home and a family, but unfortunately,…

Life sure can get tough at times. Sometimes, to get through it, all we need is a loyal friend who is willing to hold out a hand or paw. This is especially true for animals who are forced to stay in shelters for a longer period.  As much as the shelter staff tries to make…

What is the first thing you think about when somebody says the word “dog”? I personally immediately picture a happy pupper, running around the park, saying hi to everybody they come across. And this is usually the type of dog that manages to find a forever home in a matter of days.  Unfortunately, some pups…

Even though it may not seem like it, being a pup is no easy job.  This is especially true for those dogs who are less fortunate. Some of them are forced to live out their days on the harsh and cold streets, while others go to stressful shelters.  And even though the shelter staff tries…

It’s commonly said that dogs and cats do not get along with each other. In fact, people consider them to be the polar opposite of each other. But, I feel that is just not the case. In many instances, this is usually said by someone who never had a cat and a dog at the…

The residents in western Kentucky were struck with catastrophic floods caused by torrential rain. Sadly, the natural disaster not only brought havoc and chaos to the area but also claimed lives. A sweet dog roamed the streets without knowing where to go or whom to ask for help. With every step he took, he felt more confused and uncertain of his future. Fortunately, rescuers came across the dog, later named Hashbrown, and immediately noticed that he looked utterly disoriented.  The doggo was admitted to the Maui…

One of the most heartbreaking things I saw on the street was a stray dog rummaging through trash in order to find something to eat. It’s terrible what these pups have to deal with on a daily basis. Many of them starve because they just can’t find enough food to maintain their weight. People usually…

Once we form a strong bond with our pet, it is very difficult to break it. For this very reason, even when we are far away, we still want to know what our dog or cat is doing because we truly care.  Pet cams were invented for that reason. However, before the owner turns it…

Behind every successful rescue story is a kind-hearted person doing their best to help an animal in need. Suzette Hall, a long-time rescuer from Southern California, is certainly that person! Recently, Hall and the group of her fellow volunteers spotted a mysterious ball of fur stranded in a deep canal, and they immediately decided to…

I can’t even begin to imagine how overwhelming the job of a rescuer is. It feels like they are constantly in a rush to help an animal in need. In one moment, they are doing their best to save a dog, only to realize that there are more dogs just like that one who are…

We have talked many times about pups who are used for breeding and how such a practice can be extremely challenging and cruel for many dogs. Now I just want to talk about one thing, and it’s the pup’s emotional wellbeing because I believe people who use them don’t even realize how much damage they…

Pugs are lovely creatures. Not only do they make incredible lifelong companions, but they are also the embodiment of all-day entertainers! Sadly, not everyone shares this sentiment.  One owner, in particular, was so cruel that they abandoned…

When a Michigan shelter received information about two dogs being dumped by their cruel owners in the middle of nowhere, they immediately knew what to do. Anyone who has ever left their dog alone in a home knows that they can get pretty mischievous sometimes. And, this is no surprise. Sometimes, they do it out of anxiety, and other times, they’re just being a bit naughty. What’s funny is that most dogs know that tearing up stuff in the house will…

No dog deserves to experience abandonment and to know how heartbreaking it feels to be rejected by their own humans. Astra and Luna, two lovely puppies, wanted their owners’ love, and yet they were cruelly dumped under a bridge next to trash. The lonely and hungry puppies were searching the trash, trying to find something…

Violet didn’t need much in order to be happy. She just wanted her owners to take care of her and love her like she deserved. As someone who was a proud dog owner once, I admit that one fear I always carried was that my dog would run away and get lost. I just don’t know how I would deal with that. The sudden feeling of dread would probably overwhelm me, but I would do my best to try and…

Not every dog is lucky enough to start their life in an idyllic environment – a warm home and a loving family. In fact, many of them are forced to spend their lives on the street, in a shelter, or with an owner who neglects and abuses them.  In those circumstances, many of them become…

A fragile two-week-old puppy kept sobbing while she was lying on the side of a road.  Cruel people took the little baby away from her mother, exposing her to danger and leaving her to fend for herself.
