Emily rescued a stray dog from a busy road in Minnesota. With no microchip and no family in sight, she took the sweet pup in and changed her life forever.
A Heart-Stopping Moment
Emily was going about her day in Minnesota when she witnessed a terrifying scene. A stray dog was wandering dangerously close to traffic.
The poor pup had almost been hit by a passing car, and Emily knew she couldn’t just walk away. She immediately sprang into action to secure the terrified animal.
She quickly made a phone call to her boyfriend to warn him about the unexpected guest. “Hi,” she told him. “Don’t be mad.”
Cornered In The Wetlands
The frightened dog had wandered into a nearby wetland preserve area. Emily carefully followed her, determined to get her to safety.
She managed to gently corner the dog, ensuring she couldn’t bolt back toward the dangerous road.
Armed with a big, fluffy blanket, Emily scooped the trembling pup up in her arms. She carefully carried her to the car, finally breathing a sigh of relief.
Searching For Answers
Once they were safely inside the house, Emily knew the next step was to check for identification. She took the dog to the local vet for a microchip scan.
Hoping to reunite the pup with a worried family, Emily waited for the results. Unfortunately, the scanner beeped empty—there was no chip.
“What the heck are we gonna do?” Emily wondered, realizing this rescue mission was going to take a bit more detective work.
Knocking On Doors
Determined to find where the sweet dog belonged, Emily hit the phones. She called the local police, as well as departments in Saint Paul and Minneapolis.
She reached out to local animal shelters and rescue organizations, leaving descriptions of the dog everywhere she could.
Emily even took to the streets, knocking on doors in the neighborhood and asking residents, “Is this your dog?” Despite her massive effort, no one claimed the pup.
A Blank Slate
Emily named the sweet dog Honey. Having fostered 30 dogs previously, Emily was no stranger to taking in animals in need.
However, Honey’s situation was unique. Normally, Emily received fosters from shelters with at least a little bit of background information.
With Honey, she had absolutely no idea where the dog came from or what she had been through. They were just going to have to figure it out together.
Demanding Affection
It didn’t take long for Honey’s true personality to shine through. Despite her traumatic ordeal near the busy road, she was incredibly affectionate.
Honey quickly learned that Emily’s hands were meant for petting. If Emily ever stopped giving her attention, Honey would immediately nudge her for more.
“Thankfully, she was just such a doll and so sweet that it was really easy to figure out,” Emily shared.
Settling Into Foster Life
Honey quickly integrated into Emily’s household, forming a special bond with Emily’s resident dog, Jo-Jo.
The two dogs would go on long walks together, exploring new paths and guarding the house side-by-side.
Honey also proved to be a beautiful sunbather, soaking up the warm rays in the yard and finally enjoying the safe, peaceful life she deserved.
An Overwhelming Response
As much as Emily loved having Honey around, it was time to start thinking about finding her a permanent family.
Emily listed the sweet, affectionate dog for adoption, hoping the right family would spot her.
The response was absolutely incredible. Within the first 12 hours of posting her profile, they received 27 applications from people wanting to give Honey a home.
A Tearful Goodbye
With so many wonderful options, Emily found the perfect family for Honey. But saying goodbye was still incredibly hard.
Through tears, Emily hugged Honey one last time. “I hope you don’t even miss me at all,” she whispered to the pup.
She comforted herself knowing Honey was going to a home with doggie siblings who were closer to her own size than Jo-Jo was.
Part Of The Pack
Honey’s transition to her forever home was a massive success. Her new family sent Emily updates showing just how well she was doing.
In the photos, Honey could be seen going on nice walks with her two new doggie siblings, looking like she had always been a part of their pack.
Looking back on the journey from the busy road to a loving home, Emily knew this rescue was one for the books. “Honey is the most memorable and the most special of the fosters,” she said.
