After spending too much time in a shelter in Washington, a senior dog with a lovable habit finally gets the dedicated care and forever home he always deserved.
A Difficult Search For A Home

Snoopy was one of those dogs who seemed to blend into the background of the shelter in Washington, despite having a heart of gold. As one of the longest-staying residents, the sweet pup watched as other dogs found their forever families while he remained behind.
But Snoopy had a special way of coping with shelter life. Whenever he had a blanket or a toy nearby, he would gently nibble on it, a comforting habit that quickly endeared him to everyone who met him.
Despite being an absolute staff favorite, the odds were stacked against the lovable senior. The combination of Snoopy being an older dog with health issues made his search for a family incredibly complicated.
To make matters more challenging, he needed to be the only dog in the household. These strict requirements made it really hard for him to get adopted, leaving him waiting patiently in his kennel day after day.
A Volunteer Steps In

Knowing that Snoopy was running out of options, a dedicated volunteer decided to take matters into her own hands. She knew the world just needed to see the sweet personality that the shelter staff already adored.
To help get Snoopy a foster or an adopter, she started featuring him on her social media accounts. She captured his adorable quirks on video, hoping the right person would stumble across his adorable face.
She didn’t stop there. She also volunteered with Forgotten Dogs Rescue and decided to reach out to them directly.
She asked the rescue team if they could possibly take on Snoopy’s case, knowing that a specialized rescue might have the resources to find him a home.
An Emotional Shelter Send-Off

Forgotten Dogs Rescue stepped up to the plate. Even better, they were able to find the most perfect foster home for the aging dog.
When the day finally came for Snoopy to leave the shelter, it was a bittersweet moment for the people who had cared for him the longest. He was totally a shelter favorite.
So many of the staff members came over to his kennel just to say their final goodbyes. They showered him with affection as they prepared him for his freedom ride.
“You be such a good boy,” one staff member told him as he headed toward the car, visibly excited for the journey ahead.
Making Up For Lost Time

The volunteer who helped network Snoopy knew immediately that his new caregiver was going to be the most amazing foster mom in the universe. She welcomed the senior dog with open arms and a pocket full of treats.
The moment he moved in with her, his new foster mom made a promise. She decided right then and there that she would make up to him what life had previously done to him.
From that day forward, Snoopy’s life completely transformed. He went from a lonely shelter kennel to a warm home where he was the center of attention.
“He’s getting spoiled every day,” his foster mom noted, ensuring the senior dog finally experienced the love he always deserved.
Walking Off The Weight

While Snoopy was finally safe and happy, he still had a few hurdles to overcome. One of his main health issues was that he was carrying around some extra weight.
His foster mom knew he needed to slim down to protect his aging joints, but she had a very specific philosophy on how to help him get healthy.
“I don’t believe in eating less, I believe in walking more,” she explained. Instead of restricting his meals, they hit the pavement together.
The dedicated duo started walking between four and six miles every single day, slowly building up Snoopy’s stamina and strength.
The Famous “Nip Nips”

As Snoopy settled into his new routine, his adorable shelter quirks began to shine even brighter in a home environment. He still loved having his soft items nearby.
Sometimes, before they headed out for their daily miles, he would decide to grab a toy and take it with him on the walk.
He absolutely loved his toys, and his comforting habit of nibbling on them continued to melt his foster mom’s heart.
“When he sucks on the toys, we call it ‘nip nips,'” she shared, embracing the sweet quirk that made Snoopy so unique.
The “Snoopy Effect”

It didn’t take long for the foster arrangement to become something much more permanent. The bond between them was undeniable.
“I knew he was gonna be mine,” she admitted. Snoopy officially turned into a “foster fail,” securing his place in her home forever.
The senior dog who once waited longer than anyone else at the shelter had completely transformed his adopter’s world with his positive, happy energy.
She calls his joyful presence the “Snoopy Effect.” After everything he had been through, he finally found the perfect person who appreciates exactly the kind of guy he is.
