Imagine walking down the street, just minding your own business, when you suddenly see someone stop their car and throw a dog out of it.
You’re confused and not sure what is going on. You think the owner is about to come out and possibly take a walk with the dog, but that doesn’t happen.
Instead, the owner just drives away into the distance, leaving his dog on the street to starve and fend for himself. This is a situation that happens way too often in the world.
And, it’s essentially what happened to this sweet dog who was dumped by her owners on the streets of Oregon. Luckily, passersby saw this incident and quickly reacted.
She Was Alone And Scared
When passersby witnessed a sweet dog being dumped near the park, they were shocked by the sight. Saddest thing of all? They dumped her with her favorite stuffed monkey.
I don’t know why, but something about this fact just makes it so depressing. I can’t even imagine the shock these passersby felt when they saw what happened.
The kind people quickly called for help, and a shelter from California responded, but there was a problem. The place where she was staying was overcrowded, so she needed a better shelter.
The rescuers from South Coast Humane Society (SCHS) in Oregon heard about this pup’s story, so they decided to take her in.
Theron Marbury, who works there, told The Dodo: “When the rescuers came, she didn’t care about food. She cared about her monkey, and that’s why we call her Monkey.”
Even though she was abandoned, they noticed that she was still in a good mood and liked when her rescuers were around her.
It gave her some comfort and hope that everything would turn out okay for her. They were confused as to why whoever dumped her on the street cared enough to give her the stuffed monkey.
Nevertheless, they knew that it would help her get through this, so for whatever reason, they at least did some small thing right, even though it was cruel to leave her like that.
She Received Many Adoption Applications
Now that she has settled in the shelter and met some other dogs, the rescuers from Oregon knew that she would recover from her trauma quickly, and she would be placed on the adoption list.
With that in mind, they proceeded to post her story online, and it received a lot of attention. Everyone who read it was immediately charmed by this pup’s personality.
The pup, now named Monkey, was going toward a better future for herself, one where she would find someone who would appreciate her more than her previous owners did.
The rescuers found someone absolutely wonderful for Monkey in all of the applications that they received.
Jenifer Alcorn, who runs the shelter, said: “They [knew] the breed and had room for her to run and live her best life. They came and met her… and fell in love. At the risk of looking a gift horse in the mouth, I asked if they would meet her kennel mate, Jasper. They decided to take them both!”
It’s so heartwarming to know that this family not only saved Monkey but also saved another dog in the process. Now, this wonderful pup will get to have a sibling.
When you look at her journey, it’s just fantastic to know that she is in a better spot now because so many people reached out and decided to help her.
