Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, it’s nearly impossible to help a dog in need. Yet sometimes, a dog comes to you, practically begging for help. This was the case for a California man named Luis when he opened the door of his home and stumbled upon Maggie, a Belgian Malinois. She sat on…

Sometimes, you embark on a rescue mission to save one dog and end up rescuing an entirely different four-legged furball instead. That’s exactly what happened when California rescuers spotted Prince, a teeny-tiny Chihuahua mix! He was all alone, limping and struggling on the side of a desert road. Prince was literally crying for help, with…

What some neglectful owners usually tend to forget is just how much a sheltered life can mean for most dogs. It doesn’t take much. They just want a warm home, some food, and playtime. That’s all it takes to make them happy. But, not everyone really cares about that. In fact, I don’t even understand…

It’s no secret that a responsible owner would do anything for their furry companion. Still, some stories resonate deeply with us, showing the profound relationship a dog and a human can have. And, if there’s one human-doggo duo that exemplifies this relationship, it’s Hannah and Belly! After initially welcoming this tiny Chihuahua with no front…

Every dog is different and requires a different approach in order to function at its best. Sometimes, it is not easy for owners to come to terms with this because they have their own life and do not have much time to devote to their pets.  In that case, the daycare is a logical solution,…

All stray dogs dream of finding someone who would love them and give them a home. Flora’s dream was not different. The gorgeous German Shepherd puppy lived on the streets, but she had high hopes of meeting a family who would cherish her and love her unconditionally. On the day when Flora was finally picked…

Every dog deserves infinite love – not the bitter feeling of betrayal and heartbreak. And yet, cruel dog owners continue hurting their dogs’ feelings and dumping them without feeling a tinge of regret. Like many abandoned dogs, Raymond never suspected that his humans would betray him and abandon him one day. Sadly, that is exactly…

Whenever I read a story about a pup who was left in front of the shelter, I keep thinking why someone would do something like this. But then I remember that there are people who do far worse things. Some people dump the dogs far away from any civilization so they can starve. Others leave…

Dogs have impeccable instincts when it comes to spotting things that are hard for us humans to see. They can either smell it or use their keen eyesight to detect threats. In such situations, it is probably best to listen to your dog and heed his warnings if he is trying to alert you that…

A shelter environment, no matter how calming or endearing, is never ideal for dogs. The very concept of being locked in a small enclosure for part of the day can be enough to overwhelm our four-legged friends. They go out, meet new volunteers and dogs, have a blast during playtime, and then are returned to…

Seeing dogs cope with shelter conditions is always a heartbreak, but seeing one just being surrendered to a shelter is beyond words. Macaroni, a one-year-old Pug mix, faced that destiny when her family brought her to a shelter in Los Angeles, California, and left her there. Her whole life turned upside down once she realized…

One of the biggest misconceptions that breaks my heart over and over again is that animals don’t have feelings. It has become an everyday occurrence that I come across somebody who states that our furry friends live solely off of instincts, incapable of love, grief, or joy.  Yet, I’ve seen dogs jumping when they are…

Saving and making an abandoned animal happy again is truly one of the most beautiful feelings if you have a big heart.  There is nothing bigger for a dog than when you heal the wound inflicted on his heart by another human.  Unfortunately, no matter how hard someone tries, some dogs are so broken that…

I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and at the right time. Today’s story about a stray puppy and a kind-hearted woman is yet another beautiful example. Aah… early spring!  Nature is waking up, slowly one day at a time. Right before you know it, the days are longer, warmer, and full of excitement.  Everything becomes alive at springtime. Animals, plants, and even humans…  The first spring flowers; those brave little heroes against the cold, are peeking underneath the remaining snow patches….

In my time writing about abandoned dogs, I’ve seen people leave them on the road, tie them up somewhere, or just dump the poor pups in a box. However, I have never quite seen anyone cruelly place puppies in a plastic container that makes it extremely difficult for them to move, breathe, or do anything….

Coming to work one early morning, a woman named Breanna Gilliam thought it was going to be just a regular day at the Yadkin County Animal Shelter. As she was walking in, she thought she saw something by the sign at the end of the driveway. But, since it was so early in the morning,…

Committing to a dog means agreeing to embark on a wonderful journey, with all its ups and downs. And its duration, a lifetime, is arguably the most meaningful part of that journey. Sadly, not all dogs live to see this happily ever after. Usually, it’s due to some unpredictable obstacles along the way that they…

A service plumber, Trevor Hayes, spends his working hours visiting clients and helping them in any way…

Throughout our journeys, I think we have witnessed many stories where some kind of puppy mill is exposed in the U.S., and then the dogs are rescued. All the pups usually get medical treatment and a new chance at life. Their captors usually face serious consequences for their actions, and we get some sense of…

Once you taste freedom, it’s hard to go back, ever – even for our four-legged friends. Now, imagine the heartbreak a shelter dog can feel after leaving their tiny kennel, taking a stroll down the street, meeting new friends at the park, enjoying a fabulous car ride and pup cup – and then returning to…

Doggy daycares are really an amazing environment for dogs. While there, they can spend all of their time socializing with other pooches. It’s also great because the staff there can organize fun activities for all of them and it’s always a good time for any pup. In fact, some dogs get so excited to go…

Salem’s life was anything but easy. Unlike many canines who enjoy the status of “favorite four-legged pet” in their families, this was not the case for her. Salem’s family left her high and dry after deciding they “didn’t want her anymore.” She ended up with her owners’ neighbor in rural Mississippi, uncertain about what her…

Our four-legged friends respond to trauma instinctively. Once abused and mistreated, it takes a lot of time to earn their trust back, no matter how hard we try.  If any group of people knows this all too well, it’s animal rescuers who work night and day to bring animals to safety, often meeting obstacles along…

What people often fail to understand is that dogs have only one true love in lives: their owners. Sadly, many people decide to end that bond in a very cruel manner. Without even the basic courtesy of surrendering their companions to a shelter, they instead resort to abandonment. And that’s what breaks my heart the…

It’s devastating to think about how any human can mistreat and heartlessly dump their dogs. Sadly, it’s the reality of many dogs who had the misfortune of living with heartless dog owners who never thought about the impact that such a trauma leaves on a dog’s soul.
