Tiny Virginia Dog Struggles To Walk Like Other Puppies Until Her Foster Mom Finds A Way To Help
Born with deformed front legs and facing the unthinkable, a tiny Virginia dog named Tyra found a foster mom willing to give her a second chance at a joyful life.
A Heartbreaking Start

When a tiny puppy is born different, the world can be an incredibly daunting place. For a little Virginia dog named Tyra, her differences almost cost her everything.
Tyra was born with both of her front legs deformed, making it impossible for her to walk like a typical puppy.
Unable to care for her special needs, someone dropped the tiny dog off at a local rescue, giving her a chance to receive the care and support she needed.
Stepping Up to Save a Life

Thankfully, the local rescue refused to give up on the tiny pup. They knew she had potential, but they needed someone to help figure out exactly what the little dog would need to thrive.
They sent out a plea for a dedicated foster who could evaluate Tyra’s unique situation and give her a safe place to land.
When her future foster mom heard about the tiny dog’s plight, she didn’t hesitate. “And so I was like, ‘I can do it!'” she recalled.
A Summer of Healing

Taking in a special needs dog requires patience, and Tyra’s new foster mom was ready for the challenge.
The two of them spent the entire summer working together. The main goal was to help the little dog learn how to navigate the world comfortably.
They focused on helping her learn how to walk and, eventually, how to get her fitted for a custom set of wheels.
Earning Her Wheels

Getting a dog accustomed to a wheelchair isn’t an overnight process. It took Tyra some time to understand how her new wheels worked.
Her foster mom used a lot of really good treats to convince the hesitant pup to take those crucial first steps.
With positive reinforcement and gentle encouragement, Tyra began to figure it out. Today, she is totally fine on them, zooming around with ease.
The Perfect Big Sister

Tyra didn’t have to navigate her new life alone. She had the constant support of her canine sister, Rey.
Tyra hasn’t really known life without Rey by her side, despite their massive size difference.
While Tyra weighs a mere six pounds, Rey is a gentle giant weighing in at 70 pounds.
Bringing Out the Best

The two dogs have completely opposite personalities, but they have been incredibly good for each other.
Rey is naturally calm and quiet, which helps the tiny Tyra feel at ease and safe in her environment.
In return, Tyra has helped Rey come out of her shell. The tiny, energetic pup encourages the big dog to play more, and they love to wrestle, with Tyra jumping all over her big sister.
A Joyful, Sassy Spirit

Because she can’t walk one foot at a time, Tyra hops around when she’s not in her wheels. She is a deeply joyful little dog with absolutely no ability to be chill.
She is endlessly curious, always wanting to see and experience new things.
Tyra is also incredibly energetic and sassy, holding strong opinions about the world around her. She even likes to chase cats in the neighborhood, though she can never get close to them.
A Heart Full of Love

Despite the difficult start to her life, Tyra holds no grudges against the world. In fact, she wants to meet absolutely everyone she crosses paths with.
“I’ve just never really met a dog that loves people so much,” her mom shared.
From a puppy facing euthanasia to a joyful girl zooming on her wheels, Tyra proved that a little bit of patience and a lot of love can completely rewrite a dog’s story.
