Missouri Shelter Dog Reached A Two-Year Mark For One Reason Adopters Still Fear

The holidays are supposed to feel warm, full, and hopeful. Even shelter pets seem to hold on to the idea that maybe this will be the season when someone finally chooses them.

But that happiness does not reach every dog. Knox, a Great Pyrenees and Labrador mix, is still waiting for the family he has not yet found.

While other dogs settle into cozy homes, Knox has reached a deeply painful milestone in a Missouri shelter. Two full years have passed, and he still has not been adopted.

The reason is heartbreakingly simple. Knox is deaf.

A Past Filled With Questions

Very little is known about Knox’s early life. When he arrived at Dogwood Animal Shelter in Osage Beach, Missouri, he was brought in as a stray, with no clues about who had cared for him before.

Even as a young pup, Knox formed an immediate bond with staff members, earning a reputation as a big, soft-hearted dog.

His large size might make him look intimidating at first glance, but Knox has always been gentle and affectionate. Sadly, even his warm personality has not been enough to help him find a family. Many potential adopters hesitate simply because he cannot hear.

“His endearing nature is particularly touching considering his special need – he is deaf. Despite his hearing impairment, Knox is a happy and easy-going guy,” it is stated in his Pet Finder profile.

Lynn Ludwig, a longtime shelter volunteer, was among the first to meet Knox and later shared his story on TikTok. The video reached thousands, bringing attention to Knox far beyond his local community.

People from across the country sent supportive comments and shared hopes that this deserving pup would soon find a loving home.

“Praying this beautiful baby finds his forever home, he deserves the world,” one commenter wrote.

“All I want for Christmas is for Knox to get adopted,” another added.

A Joyful Spirit Despite His Challenges

Knox’s caretakers emphasize that although he is deaf, his disability does not diminish his happiness or his affection. He is a fun, loyal companion who simply needs someone willing to understand his needs.

He would do best in a peaceful household where he can be the only pet, allowing him to enjoy a relaxed and predictable routine.

“Patience, understanding, and unconditional love are the pillars of the home he seeks… Be it leisurely strolls in nature or cozy evenings at home, Knox is ready to share his heart and sweet spirit he will bring to his forever home,” his caregivers concluded.

Knox continues to wait for someone who can see beyond his deafness and recognize the incredible dog he is.

When that day comes, he will bring endless joy to the people who welcome him. This gentle boy has nothing but love to offer in return.

Good luck, Knox. You truly deserve a forever home.
