After Eight Months In A Shelter, This Texas Chihuahua Finally Gets Chosen

Many shelter dogs feel sad as they watch visitors pass them by. The younger pups keep hoping that one day a kind human will stop and pick them out of the crowd.

However, older dogs find it more difficult to keep the hope alive.

Mr. Conor knew that feeling well. He lived in the shelter for months. Every time he saw other dogs leave with their families, he was heartbroken because he always stayed behind.

And yet, he refused to lose hope, believing his miracle would come.

Little did he know that his wait was about to end.

Eight Months Of Waiting

When Conor arrived at the shelter, he was already a senior dog. He came with his brother, who was adopted quickly, but Conor remained waiting.

The pup thought he would soon find a home, just like his brother.

Sadly, that wasn’t the case. He watched families come and go for eight months.

Although he was overlooked, Conor never lost his spirit. He greeted visitors eagerly, and soaked up every bit of attention they gave him.

Unfortunately, nobody applied to adopt the pup. At nine years old, he was overlooked just like other senior dogs.

Mr. Conor’s life changed when Ron Sutton walked into the shelter.

Ron had recently lost his Chihuahua, Toby, who lived to 17, and he missed him terribly.

Although he didn’t plan to adopt a pup that day, Conor caught his attention immediately. Ron felt drawn to him and decided to bring him home.

Conor finally left the shelter.

Conor, now known as Mr. Conor, moved into his new home in Galveston, Texas.

Ron’s daughter, Natalie Sutton, loved watching Mr Conor form a bond with her dad.

She shared that Conor and her dad found something special in each other although they seemed like an unlikely pair.

“Mr. Conor wasn’t what my dad went looking for at the shelter, but he was just such a happy little guy my dad couldn’t leave him there,” Natalie said in an interview. “I personally can see how much joy having this dog has brought my dad, and it makes me very happy to see how happy Mr. Conor is too.”

Mr. Conor was cautious. He didn’t realize that this was his forever home. He had been fostered before and returned, and he needed time to feel safe.

He let his guard down about a month later.

“He’s a really easy going dog, is well-trained and friendly with everyone,” Natalie said.

Mr Conor started following Ron from room to room. He just wanted to be next to him.

Natalie later shared a TikTok video showing Mr. Conor settling into life in Texas.

In the clip, the pup cuddles and relaxes because he knows that he is finally home.

The caption says he is “just so happy to be here.”

Viewers felt it too.

One wrote, “Senior pets have no time to lose. They love immediately and fully!”

Another added, “There’s absolutely something about a rescue’s love and appreciation.”

Mr. Conor lives his best life with his family. He finally feels chosen and loved, and he is exactly where he belongs.
