Dealing with stray dogs is generally a lot easier than dealing with stray cats. Pups are generally more friendly, even if they were neglected by humans for a long time.
Cats on the other hand tend to be more feral and wary of humans, so getting them to accept your help is never an easy task.
We all sometimes try, but they just run away as soon as we reach out to them. This is a big problem when rescuing cats, but it’s not an impossible one.
There are always solutions for it. For example, this woman from New York was shocked when she saw several notes on her car warning her about cats who were hiding under it. After that, she quickly decided to help.
It Was A Very Difficult Rescue
After Maria Yagoda read all the shocking notes, she sprang into action and immediately called the woman who left her number on the notes.
The kind woman responded and came out to help her with the rescue. Not only that, but a lot more neighbors came to help her.
They were unsure whether the kitten was inside the car somewhere or under it, so they started looking. She was screaming the whole time which helped narrow it down.
Shortly after, Maria contacted Greenpoint Cats, as they had experience with these kinds of rescues, and they responded immediately.
A volunteer from the shelter came and had a brilliant idea from the start on how to draw in the kitten. She played meowing sounds, which helped them locate him.
The kitten that was inside the car was responding, so they knew where he was. Now, they just needed to draw her out, but she was completely scared.
Pothole Is Finally Rescued
The volunteer brought a kitten, named Lydia, from the shelter because she thought that it would help soothe the cat trapped under the car.
Another neighbor also tried to do the same with a local cat who was more vocal to help them, which did help this cat emerge from the car only for him to run under another car.
Now, the kind people tried to get her out by barricading the car in any way they could and then placing a lot of humane traps, hoping that she would walk into one.
They tried luring him out for a long time and eventually, they were successful. It took them a while, but they finally saved him.
The kitten was named Pothole, and he made friends with Lydia. Even though Lydia wasn’t really helpful in rescuing Pothole, she had another role now and she was really good at making friends.
Shortly after, the rescuers took Pothole into their shelter in New York where they gave her an examination and also placed him on an adoption list.
As expected, Pothole and Lydia were adopted quickly and are now living their best lives with the most amazing family.
