Trying to help and save dogs is a difficult task. It’s like trying to plant trees in the desert. You know it’s going to take time and effort, but each tree will bring shade and life to a place where there is none.
That analogy works for dogs as well. Our beloved furry companions change our lives in numerous ways and almost always for the better.
While the issue of strays and abandoned pups seems endless, there is some comfort in knowing that people are becoming more aware of the issue and are trying to do whatever they can to help.
In the story we will talk about today, a couple of animal control officers from California were stunned after finding a malnourished mama dog in the rain with her puppies, so they immediately rushed to her aid.
She Was Trying To Keep Them Safe
When the animal control officers picked up the mama dog and her puppies, they had no clue how long this dog family had been lying in the rain.
The only thing that was certain was that she was used for breeding by someone and then dumped when she was no longer useful to them.
All they knew was that they needed help badly. The mama dog was desperate to try and save her puppies, so she kept them warm in the rain and fed them even though she was severely malnourished.
The kind rescuers then took her to Underdog Heroes rescue in California, and gave them a new chance at life.
After taking the mama dog in, they did an examination on her, and they realized that she hadn’t nursed in a while simply because she couldn’t.
She was so skinny and needed an emergency surgery, so the veterinarians did whatever was necessary to save her life.
The rescuers also worked tirelessly to save the puppies, but it was just really difficult given their condition. Two of them had crossed the rainbow bridge shortly after.
A Slow Journey To A New Life
One of the rescuers, Shoshi, felt horrible that she couldn’t do anything to help them, so she tried to comfort the mama dog, now named Mercy.
The remaining 4 puppies got a chance to keep going because their therapy was starting to work. Things were slowly changing for the better.
After some time had passed, Shoshi and Mercy were starting to get really close and it was clear that they became really good friends.
Her personality was starting to shine through and her attitude had changed completely in just three weeks. Mercy’s transformation was just incredible.
She was also reunited with her babies for a while and Mercy looked so happy to see them again. She felt relieved knowing that they were okay.
Now that all of them had grown up a lot, they were eligible for adoption, so the rescuers from Underdog Heroes were able to find a home for them.
They are also looking forward to finding an amazing family for Mercy and they have no doubt that they will succeed because she is just so sweet and outgoing. She deserves all the best.
