So many people still do not seem to realize just how deeply dogs are capable of feeling. They know love, fear, trust, and heartbreak in ways that are far closer to us than some would like to admit.
Sadly, there are still people who treat dogs as if they can simply be thrown away, leaving loyal companions behind in ways that create wounds no one can see. The result is always painfully familiar: a scared, shattered animal forced to figure out how to survive on their own.
Mudder, a pregnant dog carrying puppies, became one of those victims when her owner cruelly threw her from a car in a Missouri park and drove off without looking back.
A Disturbing Report
The Stray Rescue of St. Louis team has encountered many distressing cases over the years, but one message they received about Mudder stood out as especially shocking.
“Hi Stray Rescue. I just saw this dog get dumped. I’m pretty sure she’s pregnant. Can you help her?”
The text came from a passerby who had witnessed the cruel act. Immediately, a rescue team led by Donna Lochmann headed to the park. The location mentioned was already known as a frequent “dumping ground,” but this situation was particularly heartbreaking.
When Donna arrived, she spotted Mudder standing near the Mississippi River, soaked from the rain and covered in mud. Her expression said everything: confusion, sadness, and fear.
Despite what had just happened, she didn’t resist when the rescuers approached. Instead, she allowed Donna to slip a leash over her, showing remarkable trust after enduring such cruelty.
Even after being betrayed, her gentle spirit remained intact.
Thankfully, the witness had also taken a photo of the vehicle’s license plate. Stray Rescue plans to work with law enforcement to track down the person responsible. For now, their main concern is ensuring Mudder’s safety and comfort.
A New Beginning
This time, Mudder’s car ride was completely different. She sat quietly in the passenger seat, finally warm and dry, as the team documented the first moment of her second chance at life.
What she needs now is a calm place to prepare for motherhood, a foster home where she can rest and care for her soon-to-arrive puppies.
“Now she’s safe with us. But she needs a foster home where she can finish her pregnancy, give birth and nurse her babies in peace,” SRSL wrote in their video post.
Once Mudder settles into a safe environment, she’ll be able to show her true personality. After her puppies grow strong and healthy, she’ll be ready to find a forever home of her own, one where she’s loved and protected.
