Texas street dogs often form packs to survive the harsh realities of living without a home. But that instinctual bond can quickly become dangerous.
If a dog is not part of the established group, or if they become too sick and weak to keep up, the pack will often turn on them.
That was the terrifying reality for one frail dog who found himself running for his life.
A Desperate Chase
Rescuers were out in the field when they witnessed a heartbreaking scene unfolding right in front of them.
A severely weakened dog was being relentlessly chased by a pack of strays. The group was closing in on him, and he had no way to get himself to safety.
Knowing they had to act fast, the team scrambled to intervene. “Okay, guys, we’re going to get this dog if we can,” one rescuer urged.

The terrified dog ran down a nearby road, trying to put distance between himself and his attackers.

The team rushed the dog, now named Timber, straight to the veterinary clinic for emergency care.
The vet examined him and immediately started him on fluids to help rehydrate his frail body.
Timber was an absolute angel during the exam. He knew he was in safe hands and seemed to tell the medical staff, “Do whatever you need to do.”
Exhaustion Takes Over
With the immediate danger finally gone, the adrenaline wore off, and Timber’s exhaustion caught up with him.
He literally fell asleep right in the middle of the clinic floor. It looked as though a massive weight had just been lifted off his shoulders.
Seeing him so weak, his rescuer silently pleaded with him to keep fighting. She was terrified his fragile body might just give out after everything he had survived.

Thankfully, Timber was a fighter. That very same day, he was cleared to go home with a dedicated medical foster.
Within just a few hours of arriving, he was already soaking up the comforts of living indoors. It was as if he had never skipped a beat.
His foster family quickly discovered that Timber was a very smart boy. He already knew how to sit and shake for treats.
A Beautiful Second Chance
Over the next few weeks, Timber’s swelling went down, and his body began to heal. He started wagging his tail whenever treats were near.
His foster family noted that he was so grateful, he would do absolutely anything for the people who saved his life.
A few months later, Timber’s incredible journey reached the perfect milestone: he was officially adopted. Today, the dog who once endured a frightening life on the streets is living a life filled with love, play, and endless happiness.
