At the end of the day, how much does a dog’s breed actually matter? Of course, it can make a difference when someone is picking out a pup, especially if they already have a certain kind of dog pictured in their head.
But once your heart is gone, the rest of it fades pretty fast. He becomes your favorite boy, your little shadow, your whole world, and suddenly that is the only label that means anything.
Still, there is something undeniably fun about learning where your dog comes from, especially when you have spent years guessing what might be hiding in their family tree or have never given a DNA test a try.
That is exactly what Alexus Bird, a woman from New Jersey, decided to do when she looked into the background of her Labrador mix. But when the results finally came in, she was absolutely floored.
A Puppy With A Mysterious Heritage

Kona, originally named Camper, was just a small puppy when Alexus met him for the first time.
She adopted him from a rescue organization in New Jersey, believing he was a black Labrador mix. His mother was thought to be a Golden Retriever.
By the time Kona reached six months of age and weighed 35 pounds, his appearance didn’t quite align with the typical Labrador profile.
His coat was longer than expected, and his size seemed larger than average for his age. These differences led Alexus and her family to question his breed.
They decided to order a DNA test, and the results were far from what they had anticipated.

“I can guarantee no one will get it 100% right,” Alexus wrote in a TikTok video.
The test revealed that Kona wasn’t a Labrador mix at all.
He was predominantly Golden Retriever, making up more than half of his genetic makeup. The rest included traces of Siberian Husky, American Bully, and American Pit Bull Terrier.
Kona’s surprising lineage quickly became a topic of conversation.
The TikTok video Alexus posted went viral, and viewers responded with a mix of humor and affection.
“As a vet student, I can confirm his breed is Very Good Boy,” one commenter wrote.
“Hmm according to my calculations he is 100% baby,” another added.
“Idk what he is but I love how he lets you flip him around and is still a puppy, that dog has got the best manners I’ve ever seen from a puppy,” the third commented.
Despite the unexpected results, Kona’s breed didn’t matter to Alexus. To her, he was still the same sweet dog she had fallen in love with.
A Big-Hearted Companion With Endless Affection

There’s no doubt that Kona embodies the spirit of a devoted companion. He’s a large, fluffy bundle of affection, and his gentle nature only adds to his charm.
Kona enjoys meeting new people and other dogs. He loves curling up beside his family and is always ready for a walk. When he’s not surprising people with his breed mix, he’s simply enjoying life with those who care for him most.
And as he continues to grow, there’s always the possibility he’ll reveal even more unexpected traits
