Tiki’s life once looked nothing like the gentle world he knows now.
Before soft beds, open yards, and happy visits to the dog park became part of his days, he had known cramped cages and dark corners. He had been one of the dogs caught in a hoarding situation, and the fear from that life had left him completely shut down.
Trust did not come easily to him.
But love has a quiet way of reaching even the most frightened hearts when it is given with patience. Little by little, Tiki began learning that life could feel different. He did not have to stay frozen in the past he had survived.
His journey has since reached people online, not because it was simple, but because it shows how much can change when an uncertain pup is finally allowed to feel safe, cherished, and surrounded by love.
From Fear To A Step Toward Trust

Tiki’s early days were filled with hardship. Rescued from a New York City hoarding situation alongside several other dogs, he carried emotional scars that made him timid and withdrawn.
He refused to let anyone near him, keeping his distance from staff and visitors.
Rather than remain in the shelter, Tiki was placed with foster caregiver Isabel Klee in New York, giving him a chance to decompress.
That decision changed everything. With each day, he grew slightly more at ease, though his fear lingered.

Isabel’s daily video updates of Tiki quickly won hearts online, including one viewer named Aubrie.
She decided to adopt Tiki and bring him into her family, ready to guide him through the challenges ahead.

The first week was tough. Tiki spent most of his time under the bed, barely eating or drinking, and would dart away whenever someone approached.
Aubrie took a patient, gentle approach, letting him adjust at his own pace.
Then came a breakthrough. One day, he took his first bite from the bowl she had left near the bed.
That small act marked the start of his journey forward.
Tiny Steps Transform A Life

Over several weeks, Tiki slowly gained confidence to explore beyond his hiding spot. Aubrie used his favorite treat, cheese, to lure him gently around the house.
Watching him move freely was a major milestone. For a pup who once cowered at human presence, it was monumental.
“I was looking forward to the behaviors that you take for granted in a dog. The jumping up on a bed, going for walks, all of these things are for most dogs table stakes. They all do it no matter what. But Tiki doing it felt like such a big deal,” Aubrie told GeoBeats Animals.

Gradually, Tiki’s playful, curious personality began to emerge. He loved discovering new corners of his home and venturing outdoors, showing the spark that had been buried under fear.
He also developed a deep attachment to Aubrie, following her everywhere and reveling in cuddles.
“I’ve just never had a dog like this who just wants to be glued to me. He follows me everywhere, I’ll catch him staring at me, looking at me. I am head over heels in love with him and I think the feeling is mutual,” says Aubrie.

Today, Tiki shares his home with two other dogs and thrives in his new environment.
Though he’s still learning, he has come a long way from the frightened pup hiding under furniture.
He now runs, plays, eats, naps, and chooses adventure over fear, a journey that stands as a testament to patience, care, and unconditional love.
