One sweet, gentle dog found herself in one of the loneliest and scariest situations imaginable after her owner tied her to a fence near a busy road in Cleveland, Ohio, and left her there.
She would later be given the name Cora, but in that moment, she was just a confused, terrified dog with no idea why she had been left behind. Even so, a tiny piece of hope stayed with her, the kind that quietly waits for a kind person to notice and step in.
That was not easy.
The fence where Cora had been left sat behind thick brush and trees, which made her almost impossible to spot from the road. For several days, she remained tucked away from view, watching cars pass by and hoping, in her own silent way, that someone would finally stop.
A Cry For Help Leads To Rescue

Cora spent three long days tethered to the fence without a single bite of food or drop of water. Finally, a kind stranger spotted her and contacted animal control.
Melina Russo, an officer with Cleveland Animal Control, responded immediately. When she arrived and saw Cora, her heart broke. Despite everything, the dog greeted her with joy, her tail wagging nonstop.
Russo spoke gently as she approached. Seeing Cora’s excitement, she knew it was safe to move closer.

Cora licked Russo’s hands, as if expressing gratitude and asking for comfort.
Russo offered her treats and gently placed a leash around her neck. As she untied the rope and led her to the car, Cora seemed to sense that her life was about to change.
A scan revealed she had no microchip. Russo carefully lifted her into the vehicle and drove her to the shelter.

At the shelter, Cora was welcomed with open arms. Her sweet nature and polite behavior quickly won over the staff. Yet, they couldn’t help but feel sorrow for the ordeal she had endured.
Once she began to heal, Cora was ready to search for the loving home she had always deserved.
A Family Brings Light Back Into Her Life

Two weeks after arriving at the Ohio shelter, something wonderful happened.
A kind family came to meet Cora. The moment she saw them, her tail began to wag and she leaned in for affection.
They were instantly smitten and decided to bring her home.
“I just knew she was ours,” Erin, Cora’s new mom, told The Dodo.

Cora moved in with her new family, leaving behind the pain of her past.
They surrounded her with love and made sure she felt safe and valued. As the days passed, her joyful personality began to shine through.

Her new family adores her and can’t imagine life without her.
“She is home. We are so lucky to have her. And I couldn’t imagine her not being a part of our family,” Erin added.
From a frightened and abandoned pup left alone in the woods, Cora blossomed into a joyful dog embraced by the love she had always longed for.
