Carlyn Foreman knew what it meant to make room for dogs who needed help. As a longtime animal lover and foster in New York, she had opened her home many times before.
Then, while volunteering with Waldo’s Rescue Pen, she saw a photo of a Pit Bull mix waiting in a Georgia shelter. His face carried something soft, hopeful, and hard to ignore.
Her schedule was already full, so she told herself it would be simple. One night only. Just enough to help him move forward.
Then Norman arrived, and that careful little plan started falling apart almost immediately.
One Night Turns Into So Much More

Carlyn felt an instant pull when she saw Norman’s shelter photo.
While volunteering in New York, she learned he had a strong chance of moving into a foster home. The challenge was finding someone available for a short-term placement, so Carlyn volunteered for the one-night stint.
She refused to let his opportunity for a better life slip away due to timing conflicts.
“As of 11 PM the night before transport, he didn’t have a foster and was at risk of staying in Georgia,” Carlyn wrote in an Instagram video.
After enduring a 20-hour van ride to New York, Norman finally arrived at Carlyn’s home.

They shared an Uber ride from the van to her apartment, and within two hours, Carlyn had completely fallen for him. His calm demeanor and affectionate personality were unlike any dog she had encountered before.
It was clear she could not part with him, so she chose to become his permanent foster.
“He got off the 20hr van ride with a wagging tail and the biggest smile. At 9AM we Ubered home, and by 11AM I knew I couldn’t let him go, so I switched to being his full-time foster,” she added.

Norman quickly settled into his new life. Free from the shelter environment, he embraced a peaceful routine, sleeping much of the day and night.
Excitement appeared only during interactions with other dogs. He adored humans, connected well with every pet in Carlyn’s household, and earned extra affection for his friendly nature.
His smooth adjustment strengthened Carlyn’s bond with him and led to one decisive choice.
From Temporary Stay To Lifelong Companion

Though she never intended to adopt Norman permanently, Carlyn’s heart decided otherwise.
After several weeks of fostering, she officially welcomed him into her family forever.
“I didn’t plan to adopt, but sometimes you just can’t say goodbye. Welcome home, Normy,” Carlyin wrote.

Now, Norman enjoys a life filled with love, safety, and comfort. He forms friendships easily, cuddles with Carlyn and other humans, naps on the coziest couch, and even watches sunsets in Central Park with his mom.
His days are worlds away from his shelter life, and he has finally found the home he deserves.
Life simply doesn’t get better than that.
