It’s true, the job of an animal rescuer is full of surprises. Yet, somehow, no matter how prepared you are, some rescue missions still manage to leave you shocked to the core.
When Adriana Figueroa, a dog rescuer from Florida, received a call about a stray dog roaming the streets, little did she know that the dog would lead her to an even bigger surprise.
She then followed the pup, only to end up next to a deep crawl space beneath a home, where a stunning surprise was hidden.
So Many Surprises
As soon as Adriana, the rescuer with Women’s Volunteer Miami, received a call about a stray nursing mom dog, she sprang into action. Upon arriving at the scene, it took her a while to locate the dog.
Then, she saw her: a black mixed-breed pup, approximately one year old, that looked timid and shy.
Not trying to scare her, the Florida rescuer followed the dog for a while until she finally led her to a tiny crawl space beneath a house.
At first, Adriana tried to lure the pup out, thinking she was hiding there from potential danger, but then, she saw something that truly shocked her: a bunch of tiny heads peeking out of the crawl space.
The mom dog wasn’t just trying to hide – she was trying to protect her babies.
“It was just her and her babies. She was just trying to find a place to keep them safe,” Adriana Figueroa told The Dodo.
Adriana knew the puppies needed a proper shelter. After three hours of work, the team managed to pull eight puppies out. However, as the mission was progressively becoming more difficult, they decided to come back early in the morning.
The next day, they successfully rescued the mom and one more puppy.
Off To A New Life
Adriana was so relieved that the mom and her babies were finally safe. As taking care of ten dogs at the same time was hardly doable by one person, she got in contact with Big Dog Ranch Rescue, which gladly accepted the entire family.
Only a few days later, both the mom, now named Veviana, and her babies were in their new temporary home, waiting for the perfect match.
The babies, named Sunshine, Sugar, Tater, Scarlett, Spud, Rouge, Jerry, Poochie, and Bonnie, immediately warmed up to their caregivers. They were bursting with energy and puppy enthusiasm, happy to finally have a warm environment to play in.
Veviana was relieved, too. She was wagging her tail as if she were trying to thank the rescuers for giving her a second chance.
Within a few weeks, six of her puppies found forever homes, leaving Veviana and three of her puppies still waiting.
“I’m ready to start a new chapter. I’ll be your loyal companion, always full of love, joy, and wagging tails to brighten your days,” Veviana’s profile reads.
When the time comes, there’s no doubt that the rest of the family will make their way to an ideal family, too.
Veviana’s personality is just too hard to ignore. She’s a sweet, laid-back dog who deserves to start a new chapter – one where she won’t need to worry about being safe or keeping her little ones alive.
“Gentle and laid-back, Veviana may be a little shy at first, but with love, she’ll open up in no time. She’s spent her days watching over her babies now she’s ready for a family of her own,” BDRR wrote in an Instagram post.
