She had very limited mobility and sometimes had difficulty breathing. It was a heartbreaking sight for anyone who loved animals.

A compassionate California caretaker for the elderly had been warned about her new client’s pet. She was told the little dog had a bit of a weight issue.

Expecting an average overweight pup, the caretaker walked into the home. But when she met Miss Daisy for the first time, she was absolutely shocked.

A Heartbreaking Situation

Calling Daisy overweight was a massive understatement. The tiny dog was trapped in a body that made everyday life incredibly difficult.

Unfortunately, Daisy’s owner was suffering from dementia. Her memory condition made it almost impossible to change the deep-set habits that had been affecting the dog for years.

The owner loved her pet, but the cycle of overfeeding couldn’t be broken in that environment. Daisy needed immediate help if she was ever going to thrive.

A Gentle Intervention

Knowing she couldn’t just walk away, the caretaker finally sat down with Daisy’s owner. She gently explained the severity of the dog’s condition.

“I think the best move would be to let her come stay with me and rehabilitate her,” she told the elderly woman.

Thankfully, the owner wanted what was best for her beloved companion. She happily agreed to let Daisy go to a place where she could heal.

The First Five Steps

When Daisy arrived at her new foster home, she weighed a staggering 55 pounds. Her mobility was severely limited.

She would scooch across the floor as much as she was able to. Walking was a monumental effort, and she could only manage about five steps maximum.

After those few steps, she would sit, pant, and try to catch her breath. Yet, despite her physical struggles, her spirit remained completely unbroken.

An Unbreakable Spirit

Even when she could barely move, Daisy wagged her tail nonstop. She took advantage of every chance given to her, with no exceptions.

Her rescuer noted that everyone could learn a lot from Miss Daisy’s incredible attitude. She never let her heavy body dampen her joyful personality.

One of her favorite things to do was roll over on her back for belly rubs. It was one of the few ways she was able to express much of herself.

A Magical Friendship

Daisy didn’t just get a new diet and exercise routine; she also got a new family. Her relationship with her rescuer’s other dogs proved to be magical.

She quickly bonded with a specific buddy named Goldie. The two dogs became pretty much inseparable as Daisy navigated her weight loss journey.

The mental stimulation of having canine friends was tremendous for her. Her world, which had once been so small, suddenly opened up to socialization and fun activities.

Finding Her Stride

With guidance and pals to support her, Daisy’s physical abilities skyrocketed. She went from barely walking five steps to running down the hallway.

She even learned to run up the stairs, a feat that once seemed impossible. Now, when she knows it’s time for a walk, she eagerly heads straight for the car.

Another major milestone was gaining the independence to flip herself back over after her favorite belly rubs. It was a beautiful way for her caretaker to track her progress.

An Astounding Transformation

By sticking to a standard diet and a healthy lifestyle, Daisy’s body slowly transformed. Her rescuer simply set the standard, and Daisy did the hard work.

Recently stepping on the scale, Daisy weighed in at a healthy 22 pounds. She had shed more than half her body weight, and her rescuer noted the difference was astounding.

She now runs freely, showing the world how much a positive attitude can get you through. Daisy finally has the vibrant, active life her heart was always waiting for.
