When a tiny mouse was saved from becoming snake food at a local shelter, no one expected her to form an inseparable bond with a 92-pound pit bull mix.
A Terrifying Fate

If there were no videos to prove it, most people would never believe this story.
On one side, there is a tiny mouse who weighs less than a gumball. On the other is a 92-pound pit bull mix who is built like a small tank.
Together, they have formed a friendship that defies all logic and expectations.
Carolyn the mouse almost didn’t have a story to tell. Her life was supposed to end at an animal shelter.
An officer had brought the tiny creature in with a specific, grim purpose in mind. Her fate was sealed to become dinner for a pet snake that very night.
But a kind-hearted volunteer happened to be at the right place at the right time. She accidentally intercepted the little mouse, saving her life in the nick of time.
Finding A Safe Haven

Knowing she couldn’t stay at the shelter, the volunteer quickly reached out for help. She contacted a friend who was known for her love of rodents.
“Hey, I know you love rodents,” the message read, offering a lifeline to the tiny survivor.
The woman eagerly took the little baby in, naming her Carolyn in honor of the volunteer who saved her. At just 36 grams, the tiny mouse had finally found a safe place to call home.
Enter The “House Hippo”

Carolyn wasn’t the only rescue animal in the home. She shared her new life with Cowboy, a massive pit bull mix.
Cowboy had been adopted as a nine-week-old puppy from Angel City Pit Bulls. His mom was endlessly grateful to the rescue for bringing the sweet boy into her life.
Now fully grown at 92 pounds, Cowboy was affectionately described by his mom as a “house hippo.”
The Gentle Giant

Introducing a tiny rodent to a giant dog could have been a recipe for disaster. But Cowboy proved to be the literal definition of a gentle giant.
He was incredibly aware of his massive size around his tiny new sister. Instead of being rough, it was almost as if he used his bulk to protect her.
From day one, the tiny mouse looked at the giant dog and decided he was her best friend.
Confidence And Heart Eyes

Despite weighing less than a gumball, Carolyn possessed the confidence of a much larger animal. She would walk around the house as if she owned the place.
Cowboy didn’t mind her bossy attitude one bit. He would watch her nighttime cleanliness routines, completely enamored with her every move.
“It’s as if he looks at her with pure cartoon heart eyes,” their mom noted, amazed by their ridiculous but beautiful friendship.
Seeing Past The Labels

Both pit bulls and mice are animals that society frequently misunderstands. They carry heavy labels and reputations that often precede them.
But Cowboy and Carolyn didn’t care about species, size, or what the world thought of them.
Carolyn never looked at the massive dog and thought he was scary. She only saw a friend and a safe space to be herself.
A Proud Mom’s Joy

As an animal advocate, their mom loves showing off her unusual furry family. “I’m a proud mom. Like, my kids get along,” she shared.
She knows that the only dangerous thing about Cowboy is how quickly he will steal your heart.
Together, the unlikely duo is helping people rethink everything they thought they knew about both species.
A Lesson In Love

Cowboy and Carolyn never judged each other for a single second. They simply took the time to get to know one another.
In doing so, they found safety, unconditional love, and mutual respect.
Their pure hearts show exactly what happens when we look past our differences. As their mom beautifully put it, “I think the world could use a little more of that.”
