Losing your dog is one of the most difficult moments for dog owners. It’s hard to say goodbye to someone who shared your home and whom you loved unconditionally.
Sadly, Megan Wyrick experienced that heartbreak. She knew that her family wanted to adopt another dog one day and give them all their love, so they waited for the right time.
At the same time, a shelter dog named Echo waited at the shelter, eager to turn his life around.
Little did he know that his wait would soon end.
A New Chapter Begins In Alaska
After Wyrick and her family moved to Akhiok, a small village on Kodiak Island, Alaska, they felt that something was missing.
Although Wyrick had planned to wait until her husband retired from the Coast Guard before adopting again, she felt that her family really needed a pup right now, so she decided to look for the right fit.
Wyrick visited a nearby shelter where she met Echo, a one-year-old dog who had already experienced loss and heartbreak. His former owners surrendered him and he was waiting for another chance at happiness.
“He was the last to join in his old home and was surrendered to the shelter. Luckily for us, he came into our lives,” Wyrick shared in an interview.
Echo was a bit timid but hopeful when he met Wyrick. He watched her closely and leaned in for affection.
Wyrick fell in love with him, and took him home the next day.
The Moment Echo Knew
It didn’t take long for Echo to adjust to his new home. He built a strong bond with Wyrick’s two sons, and followed them through the house and into the yard.
When the boys took him outside to play in the snow, Echo was over the moon. He started jumping freely and smiling.
At that moment, he felt so free and realized that nothing was holding him back.
Wyrick captured the moment on video as Echo bounced through the snow and posted on TikTok. The joy he felt was written all over his face.
“That feeling when you realize you are never going back to the shelter and your forever home has a yard and two boys to play with forever,” the on-screen text reads.
While jumping in the snow with his human siblings and smiling with them, Echo realized that he was home and that he would never return to the shelter.
Echo’s happiness was contagious. He constantly wagged his tail and soaked up every moment he spent playing.
“His joy brings me joy,” Wyrick wrote in the caption.
Echo was grateful to his family for giving him the love he always hoped to find.
