When dogs have been left behind, they keep waiting in the very spot where they last saw the people they loved. They look into the distance and search for familiar faces. The sad dogs do their best to try to understand why they were left out in the cold.
Samson endured that heartbreak. He was abandoned in the Alabama parking lot. He expected his owner to return for him, and he studied every car that pulled in.
He refused to give up waiting although he felt heartbroken.
Fortunately, Samson’s story didn’t end where he was abandoned.
Waiting In The Parking Lot
Samson waited for someone who was never coming back. Whenever a car turned in, he lifted his head, expecting to see his owner.
Summer, a rescue volunteer, stopped at the store for milk and noticed him sitting alone near the entrance.
When she asked the employees about him, she learned that he had been there since early morning.
Summer tried to help Samson, and she gave him food. The pup took food from her, but he was too scared to let her slip a leash around his neck.
He wanted to keep waiting.
The next morning, Summer returned to the store, but Samson was no longer there.
Luckily, while she was driving to work, she noticed him again at the town’s only gas station.
Thanks to the help from the employees and a trail of hot dogs, they lured him behind the building and finally secured him.
A New Start
Samson spent the next two and a half weeks at Summer’s home. He was nervous in the beginning and wondered whether he could trust her.
Summer pampered him with care and showered him with attention, and gradually, Samson’s fear started disappearing and his eyes began shining again.
His personality slowly emerged, and he began showing silly, loving nature.
When he was ready, the rescues arranged his paperwork, health checks, and travel plans. Samson was transported to Tennessee with another foster named Ashley for a health certificate before continuing to Massachusetts.
When he went to the vet for a checkup, small clues about his past life came to light.
A crack on his snout made it clear he had been injured in the past. He also carried a few healing puncture marks on his front leg.
The vet estimated he was between one and two years old.
Samson had double dew claws and a full tail, which suggested that he had Great Pyrenees ancestry.
Samson settled in quickly at Shultz’s Guest House in Dedham, Massachusetts.
The staff felt devastated for him.
“Some dogs break your heart… and then stitch it back together. Samson is one of them. He was abandoned in a parking lot and waited, running up to every car that pulled in, hoping his person would come back. They never did,” Shultz’s Guest House wrote on Facebook.
Just five days after he arrived, he had visitors.
Michala and Joe had seen his story online and drove from Western Massachusetts to meet him. They brought their dog, Lucy, to see if the dogs would get along.
The connection between them was instant, and Samson went home with them that same day.
In the following weeks, Samson adjusted to life in his new home. His family shared that he enjoys morning walks, playing, and hanging out with relatives.
They said, “Samson has settled in beautifully…Simply put: we love Samson, and we’re thrilled he’s home.”
Samson lives his best life with a family who adores him. He will never be left waiting again and wondering whether he is worthy of love.
