I learned the hard way that not all “porch protectors” are as reliable as they seem when my neighbor’s Goldie snatched one of my sneakers right off the porch. While some deterrents may look spooky and stand tall, they don’t exactly have the skills to fend off thieves.
This is especially true when the culprit is clever enough to outsmart them. Melanie Armstrong, a woman from Oklahoma, learned this lesson firsthand when she had a package delivered to her porch, guarded by her trusty skeleton, conveniently named Skelly.
After receiving a notification from the delivery driver that the package was successfully dropped off, Armstrong came home to a shocking surprise: it was gone.
Puzzled by what had happened, she decided to check her security camera footage. What she saw left her in stitches!
An Unlikely Thief Caught Red-Handed
Melanie’s package had arrived at her home, and though she wasn’t there to greet the driver, she had a trusty “protector” in place: Skelly. But was he of any help? Apparently not!
Even though Skelly was positioned in such a way that it looked like he was holding the package, he wasn’t a reliable deterrent against the “furry neighborhood thieves.” By the time she came home, the package was already gone.
“Imagine the excitement of getting that “Your Amazon package has been delivered!” notification… only to come home and find it gone,” Choctaw Police Department (CPD) wrote on Facebook.
After checking her security camera footage, she saw something hilarious: the culprit was her neighbor’s dog!
He slowly snuck onto her porch, casually sniffed the package, grabbed it, and made off with it like a true porch pirate.
“This four-legged bandit took it upon himself to snatch the goods right off the porch!
No getaway car, no accomplice, just one determined dog living his best life,” CPD added.
The last seconds of the video show the dog running away with the package with another furry fellow, who looked like he was keeping lookout.
Melanie’s initial frustration quickly turned to humor. To see how resourceful these pups were was so funny.

To receive a replacement order, Melanie needed to file a report with the police, though she made it clear there were no hard feelings about the incident.
For the future, the Oklahoma owner decided to take some extra precautions. Instead of Skelly, who officially “retired” from guarding her home, Melanie purchased a box for upcoming deliveries.
As for the suspect? He certainly carried on with his life as if nothing had taken place! Well, except for the thrill of the “heist.”
“We’re happy to report the victim is okay (just a little confused), and the suspect remains at large, likely enjoying a treat or two,” the Oklahoma PD concluded in the post.
