We all know how devastating the Texas floods were, and the damage done was just enormous. There is no easy way to fix what happened.
But there are many people who are working diligently around the clock to help fix it. It’s really amazing to see just how many people gathered to help each other in this crisis.
The work led these Texas folks to discover many shocking things in all the mess, and there is still no end of surprises.
Just recently, a cleanup crew was shocked to find a furry animal hiding inside an oven after the whole mess started; so they quickly reacted.
Seriously, How Did It End Up There?
After a person from the cleanup crew found a cat inside an oven, they quickly rushed to warn the others. More people gathered and witnessed what happened in shock.
The cat was terrified and just ran away. The cleanup crew tried to help the cat, but it was not easy because he was not letting anyone get near him.
So, they called Kerrville Pets Alive! for help, and even the rescuers were surprised to learn this news. They arrived at the scene shortly after.
Karen Guerriero, the president of the organization, told The Dodo: “At first, I was emotional, then I was elated. We lost so many animals because of the floods. This cat was alive and needed help.”
The rescuers believed that the cat belonged to somebody, and when the floods started happening, he went to hide and ended up in the oven.
His owner was no longer there, so the cat didn’t know what to do. All he wanted was to survive, and the cat was still terrified.
Guerriero continued by saying: “I think this cat was just trying to survive. Maybe when the flood rushed through the house, somehow the water opened the oven door, then it closed back up, and he got stuck inside? Things around us are just twisted and discombobulated. I’m just so glad someone opened the oven door and called us.”
Trying To Find Easy Bake’s Owners
The rescuers were able to secure the cat pretty quickly and then they drove him straight to Freeman-Fritts Vet Clinic & Shelter in Texas.
They started examining him and it was pretty clear from the start that the cat was weak, slightly malnourished and dehydrated. He also had burns on his legs and unusual residue from all the water and mud.
He was given medical care, food and water shortly after. They were able to establish that he is an older cat, but his health was more or less great.
Doctor Key, who works at the clinic, decided to name him Easy Bake because of the oven.
He said: “Dark humor is kind of how we get by. This has been so horrible, and we’ve had so much loss of life, humans and animals, and so much sadness. We try to keep our morale up, see the good things that we’re doing, and all the lives that we’re saving, so his funny name helps us laugh a bit.”
The rescuers are working to find his original family, but so far, there was no success. Until they figure out a solution for him, he will stay in the shelter.
They are still hopeful that Easy Bake’s real family will reach out to them and come to reunite with their lost cat.
