Imagine the shock of seeing your dog years after being told she had passed away. So many questions swirl in your mind…Where was she all along? Was she safe? Who was she with, and did they treat her well?
This shocking situation recently happened to a Florida family after a local shelter notified them that their dog, a Maltipoo named Sugar, was alive.
The owner, Albania, and her family immediately rushed over to the shelter, only to experience the most tear-jerking reunion ever.
Alive And Hidden All This Time
In 2021, the Sagarra family saw Sugar one last time. The dog sneaked out of the house to their neighborhood in Miami, Florida, and she never returned home.
Shocked and heartbroken by the loss, Albania and her family posted flyers, notified their neighbors, and made pleas on social media. They even offered a thousand-dollar reward for the dog.
As it turned out, all of that was in vain. Sugar never showed up.
The family didn’t give up hope until one day, they received a shocking call from an unknown person.
They were told that Sugar had been accidentally run over by a car and passed away. This brutal news shattered the family’s hearts into a million pieces. Yet, they accepted their beloved pooch was gone forever.
Then, another shocking surprise unfolded!
Four years later, Albania’s family received another call, saying that Sugar was dropped off at a local shelter. The family immediately rushed to the spot, still processing this mind-blowing information.
It was indeed Sugar… only now, she was underweight and ill, with serious heart and kidney problems.
“Miracles do happen. Four years ago they told us our dog Sugar had been run over and that she had passed away. Today we reunited with her at a shelter in Florida,” Albania wrote in a TikTok video.
After so many years of being apart, Sugar instantly remembered her family in an emotional reunion.
Despite being ill, she eagerly curled up in her mom’s arms, relieved to be safe at last. Albania and her mom, who still don’t know the full story behind Sugar’s disappearance, took the pup in one more time.
They gladly took an opportunity to give the dog the best days she had left, hoping to make up for the lost time.
“We are going to fight so Sugar can enjoy the remainder of her life next to her family, where she belongs,” Albania said on TikTok.

During the first couple of days, the owners helped Sugar adapt to her new/old environment at her own pace.
This tiny Maltipoo was evidently comfortable around her people. However, her health began to deteriorate with each passing day.
She didn’t respond to medications well, barely walked, and mostly rested lying down.
While the family truly hoped Sugar would make it through, this little girl, sadly, crossed the rainbow bridge. Albania, who had lost Sugar once before, was now faced with saying one last goodbye to her beloved pet. Needless to say, it truly broke her heart.
“RIP to my beautiful, sweet, iconic Sugarcita. You were so brave and loved. I will carry your memory forever and will love you until the end of time,” Albania wrote in the post.
There’s no doubt that Sugar, now a cherished memory of her family, will always live in their hearts.
