As parents and dog owners, our greatest wish is for our children and four-legged pets to get along. Watching them become friends is an incredibly rewarding experience. It is one that makes us realize our little ones have found a bond that could last a lifetime.
When Katy Driscoll, from California, adopted her new dog, Kaya, she had her doubts, too. She wondered how Kaya would respond to her toddler, Nora, and whether the two would have a connection like Nora had with their previous dog.
Then, one day, Katy captured the sweetest moment on camera, and all of her doubts melted away!
She Has No Doubts Anymore
Katy and her family were devastated to lose Naga, with whom they spent a wonderful five years. She was a lovebug, a shoulder to cry on, and, most of all, the best friend to their baby girl, Nora.
When she crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of thirteen, Katy wasn’t sure if she’d ever find a dog quite like her again. Then came Kaya!
The family decided to foster her with the rescue organization, Promise 4 Paws, in California, and it turned out to be the best decision ever!
“I didn’t think we’d ever find a dog who loved our daughter the way our sweet Naga did before he passed away, but we truly hit the jackpot with Kaya,” Katy wrote in the video.
Kaya quickly adapted to her new home, but most importantly, she immediately bonded with Nora – who became her favorite hooman.
“Despite being so anxious and scared when we first rescued her, she immediately bonded to our toddler and has always been incredibly loving and gentle with her, as if they’ve always known each other,” Katy added.
Aside from games of fetch, endless snuggles, and her all-time favorite cheese snacks, one thing Nora loves most is her baby sister. Every morning, she and Katy go to Nora’s room to get her up after sleep, and Kaya couldn’t be more excited.
However, one morning, Nora was still asleep, and that’s when Katy realized how much Kaya actually loved her.
The two entered the room, and when Nora didn’t immediately wake up like she usually does, Kaya went completely still. She carefully observed Nora’s bed, as if she were trying to determine if her baby sister was breathing.
Kaya’s sniffing woke up Nora a few moments later, and the pup couldn’t hide her excitement. She truly loved her sister – and this adorable moment caught on camera proved it once more.
Kaya Is Family Now
After initially caring for Kaya on a foster basis, it didn’t take long for Katy to realize that Kaya was already home. She and her husband adopted her, making her an official member of the family.
With Kaya in the house, there’s no doubt that Nora will have a friend to grow up with.
“I’m incredibly grateful that Nora has a best friend to grow up with who has been beyond sweet and patient with her, especially after the loss of her first doggie love,” Katy wrote in an Instagram post.
Kaya and her hoomans have a long way of making memories together – memories that Nora will cherish in her heart forever.
Their story stands as a testament to a truly unique relationship between a dog and a child – one that instills kindness, teaches friendship values, and is led by pure love.
