Surrendered Texas Dog Withdraws From Everyone Except The Worn Toy That Smells Like Home

Luna’s world went from familiar and loving to loud and frightening almost overnight.

The one-year-old American Staffy mix from Texas had gone from being surrounded by the people she trusted to sitting behind shelter bars among unfamiliar dogs and constant noise.

Nothing around her felt safe anymore. In all that confusion, Luna found one small source of comfort: a worn teddy bear that reminded her of the home she had lost.

Shy Pup Refuses To Let Go Of Her Teddy Bear

Luna was surrendered to San Antonio Animal Care Services, though little is known about her previous life. Staff speculate that her high energy may have been too much for her former family to handle.

Upon arrival at the shelter, Luna was visibly shaken. She wouldn’t approach the staff, nor did she show any interest in her new surroundings. The only thing she sought was the familiar presence of her Teddy bear.

The stuffed bear, the last piece of her old life, became her lifeline. It smelled like home and provided her with the security she desperately needed.

According to shelter spokesperson Lisa Norwood, Luna treated the toy much like a child would treat a security blanket, something comforting to hold onto when everything else feels uncertain.

For several days, Luna remained withdrawn, keeping to herself and clinging to her Teddy.

However, over time, Luna began to show signs of recovery. Staff started seeing the playful, loving side of her that had been hidden beneath her fear.

With the support of a growing number of compassionate supporters, they assured the public that Luna would not be put down. Instead, the shelter staff made a commitment to helping her find a brighter future.

A New Beginning Awaits Luna

Given the overcrowded and noisy conditions at the shelter, Vermont English Bulldog Rescue offered to take Luna in. The calmer, quieter environment would give her the space she needed to heal and recover, as she prepared for adoption.

The staff at the rescue believe Luna’s new family will need to be patient, but with time, she will become a loyal and affectionate companion. Beneath her initial fear lies a playful, loving dog eager to bring joy to the right person.

Luna’s attachment to her Teddy bear represented the only comfort she had in the midst of her fear. Now, all she needs is a person to become that source of security and love.

And those at the rescue are confident that the right person is out there, ready to welcome Luna into their home.
