When the team from Leashes of Love in California received a call about a stray, they had no idea what they were about to witness.
It turned out to be one of the most devastating cases they had ever seen.
Brandon, one of the rescuers, was shaken. He told The Dodo: I have never, in my rescue career, seen a dog look so bad.
Life had beaten him down, leaving him in a heartbreaking condition. With so many illnesses visible, they knew he needed urgent care, so they rushed him straight to a veterinary clinic in San Juan Capistrano, California.
They hurried as quickly as possible, determined to get him the treatment he so badly needed.
Even with everything stacked against him, the pup kept fighting, and his rescuers were confident he could recover.
His treatment began with laser therapy to encourage healing. He also received medicated baths every two days to help with severe skin issues.
On top of that, his legs were infected and required medication to reduce swelling and stop the spread.
A New Family Brings Him Home
As weeks went by, Brandon, who fostered him, saw his fur start growing back quickly. Watching the transformation filled him with joy.
He said: It was amazing to watch the transformation. He has some scarring on his face that will never get fur back. So, I can tell that it’s either from fighting or being a bait dog.
Despite his scars and struggles, the dog’s spirit shone through. He was calm, loving, and eager to enjoy life again.
When he was strong enough, Brandon brought him to an adoption event in California, hoping the right family would spot him.
That’s when Tristan, a young boy, saw the pup and instantly felt a connection. His parents shared the same feeling, realizing this was the dog meant for them.
Tristan’s dad, Clint said: We were looking for a dog who was going to be a companion for Tristan and he was an immediate bond for our son.
At first, the dog was a little uneasy in his new home, still unsure how to adjust.
