Shelter dogs dream of life beyond their lonely kennels and long for true love that only a forever family can give them.
Many dogs end up spending a lot of time in shelters waiting for potential adopters to notice them and pick them out of the crowd.
Maror was one of the pups who waited at the shelter for too long.
The sweet dog spent more than 700 days sitting by the kennel door, hoping to catch shelter visitors’ eyes and steal their hearts.
Despite his long stay at the shelter in Edinburg, Texas, he didn’t lose hope that one day, his biggest dream would come true.
Matzo’s Long Wait

The staff knew that Maror would make the perfect pet.
He was potty trained and loved interacting with people. He only needed someone to choose him and give him the chance to show what an incredible dog he was.
And yet, it wasn’t easy for Maror to find a home because the shelter wanted him and his kennel mate, Matzo, to be adopted together.
Maror and Matzo arrived at the Edinburgh shelter together and have been inseparable ever since.
Since they were a bonded pair, the shelter didn’t want to separate them.
However, as time went by, and both pups remained at the shelter, the staff started considering finding them separate homes.
Aileen Betancourt, the adoption specialist, posted a heartbreaking video of Maror on her TikTok account, @lifesavingpixie, where she advocates for shelter dogs and helps them find homes.
In the clip, her followers could see Maror waiting in his kennel with a heartbreaking expression on his face. He stared at Betancourt with his big, soulful eyes as if he were begging her to find him a home.

Matzo tried to sniff him and offer him some much-needed comfort, but Maror didn’t shift his sorrowful gaze.
“We know how hard it can be to find a home for bonded pairs, so while our hearts ache at the thought of separating them, our biggest hope is for either pup to find a loving home — even if it means they go separately,” the video caption read.
The Dogs’ Dream Comes True

The heartwrenching footage resonated deeply with Betancourt’s followers, who were moved by Maror’s sadness.
On April 14th of 2025, Betancourt shared the best possible update and revealed that Maror and Matzo’s dream came true!

The two best friends left the Texas shelter and hopped into a transporter car with the biggest smiles on their faces.
The two best friends traveled to their new home, where their forever family was waiting for them. From now on, Maror and Matzo will live a life filled with the love that they have always longed for.
And I couldn’t be happier for them!
