Missouri Police Found A Frightened Dog By The Road And Built A Barrier Around Her

When dogs end up in situations they cannot escape on their own, everything depends on whether a kind person chooses to stop.

Joy Bird needed that kindness desperately. The sweet dog had been hit by a car and left on the side of a road in St. Louis, Missouri, unable to get herself to safety.

She watched vehicle after vehicle pass by with frightened eyes, almost as if she were silently asking someone to notice her.

Even after so many people kept driving, Joy Bird held on to hope that help would finally come.

A Compassionate Intervention

Everything changed when local police officers noticed the injured dog curled up by the road. Without hesitation, they stopped and rushed to her side.

For Joy Bird, the sight of the officers meant relief. The team quickly created a barrier around her to shield her from passing cars and contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis for assistance.

While waiting for the rescue team, the officers gently petted her, reassuring her that help was on the way.

When the rescue team arrived, their hearts sank at the sight of her.

Joy Bird had several cuts and couldn’t move her back legs.

The team carefully lifted her into their vehicle and transported her to a nearby veterinary clinic for urgent care.

Luckily, the veterinarians found that her injuries weren’t as severe as initially feared.

Joy Bird had a broken hip, but with the proper treatment and care, she was expected to make a full recovery.

“It is going to take her time to heal with lots of crate rest, but she should be able to make a full recovery in time,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis wrote on Facebook

The veterinary team surrounded her with love and scheduled her surgery the very next day.

A New Beginning

After a restful night, Joy Bird began to relax, her fearful eyes gradually softening as she realized she was safe.

The surgery went smoothly, and her recovery started soon after

Since her legs had been immobile for a while, her caregivers placed her in a stroller to take her on outdoor walks. Joy Bird loved these strolls. Her face would light up with joy as she basked in the sunlight and fresh air.

“She loves going out in her stroller and feeling the sun. [She’s] such a sweet girl,” the rescue shared on social media.

With the dedicated care of the St. Louis rescue team, Joy Bird’s health improved rapidly. Just weeks after her surgery, she was ready to move to foster care.

Waiting For Forever

Her foster family welcomed her with open arms, giving her all the affection she deserved. Though Joy Bird relished the love and comfort she received, she still dreams of finding her forever family.

She longs for the day when she can curl up in her own home, surrounded by people who will offer her unconditional love.

One thing is clear: Joy Bird is ready to give her whole heart to the family that chooses her.
