Ohio Dog Named After A Norse Wolf Has One Blue Eye And One Brown Eye, But His Gentlest Habit Is Even More Surprising
After surviving a heartbreaking start to life, a gentle Ohio husky mix named Hati finds a family willing to drive hours to save him.
A Glimpse in the Dark

Lindsay from Ohio came across an adoption ad that immediately blew her away. The picture showed a dog so strikingly dark that, from a distance, all anyone could see was his bright pink tongue.
The puppy, named Hati after a Norse wolf that chases the moon, had survived a difficult start to life. He was rescued from an awful backyard breeding situation.
A Heartbreaking Past

Hati and five of his siblings had been kept confined inside a dark closet. The kind woman who initially pulled him from that terrible environment realized she couldn’t give him the focused attention he desperately needed.
She knew he deserved a true forever home where he could thrive. Lindsay, looking to expand her family, was determined to be the one to give it to him.
The Emotional Journey

It took the family about six hours of driving to reach the location where Hati was staying. Every single minute of that long car ride was filled with intense emotion.
The anticipation of finally meeting the dog they had only seen in pictures was overwhelming. Then, the moment they laid eyes on him, everything clicked into place.
“Upon seeing him, it was like, that’s my boy,” Lindsay recalled.
A Rare and Beautiful Mix

Hati’s appearance is incredibly unique, turning heads wherever he goes. A DNA test revealed he is 53 percent husky, 34 percent German Shepherd, and the rest Malamute.
Usually, a husky and German Shepherd mix doesn’t result in a solid black coat, making him quite rare. He also has heterochromia, leaving him with one striking blue eye due to a lack of melanin.
Lindsay lovingly describes him as “one big, fluffy black land cloud with two funny-looking eyes.”
A Gentle Giant

Weighing in at 70 pounds, Hati often gets called a “wolf” by fascinated children. Yet, this big boy has absolutely no idea how large he really is.
Because he likely didn’t receive much affection in his early days in the closet, he can still be a bit awkward when receiving attention. He enjoys it, but sometimes just doesn’t know how to handle the love.
Beneath his wolf-like exterior beats the heart of a highly sensitive and gentle soul.
Unlikely Friendships

One of the most surprising things about Hati is how delicately he treats the smaller creatures around him. He has even formed an amazing bond with the family’s koi fish.
He will sit by the water and gently pet the fish, caressing them with his large paws. He never tries to hurt them, though he seems a bit confused as to why they won’t play back.
His nurturing instincts don’t stop at the pond, either.
Babying His Toys

Hati has a massive collection of stuffed animals scattered all over the house and yard. Instead of tearing them apart like many large dogs would, he chooses to “baby” them.
He spends his days licking and cuddling his beloved stuffies. Sometimes, he even carefully buries them in the yard to keep them safe.
It is a beautiful display of the gentle nature that makes him so special to his family.
The Ultimate Comfort

Over time, Hati has become Lindsay’s unofficial service dog. She admits she isn’t very expressive when she is struggling, but Hati always seems to sense her pain.
There is a strict rule in the house that Hati is not allowed on the bed, though he is welcome on the couch. He is a good boy who always respects this boundary.
But one day, when Lindsay was crying on her bed and having a particularly hard time, Hati knew exactly what to do. He broke the rules, jumped straight onto the bed, and laid his heavy body across her to provide comfort, proving that love is the most important rule of all.
