It was getting late. Everyone was wrapping up their day, making sure every last task was done before finally settling in for the night.
Carla Stowe was looking forward to a quiet evening at home. But sometimes plans have a way of changing in an instant.
That night had something else in store for her.
As she began locking up, Carla noticed her dogs behaving oddly. They were restless, refusing to listen, and kept trying to lead her toward the yard.
It almost seemed like they were desperate to tell her something.
Unable to ignore them any longer, Carla finally opened the door and let her dogs guide her outside.
What she came across left her completely stunned.
Right there in the yard, hidden in the dark, was…
What’s Inside That Crate?

As Carla shined her flashlight across the yard, she realized something was very wrong.
She didn’t own a yellow crate.
She hadn’t left anything out there.
That meant someone else had placed it there.
As president of Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue, Carla had seen plenty of heartbreaking cases. But as she slowly walked closer, she couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that this might be another one of those nights.
From inside the crate came a loud thumping and faint noises, though Carla couldn’t make out what they were. Then her light caught a pair of sorrowful eyes peering back at her through the gaps in the duct tape sealing the box shut.
It was a dog.
“His head was down, but I could hear the constant thumping of his tail,” Stowe recalled.

Carla wasted no time cutting through the duct tape and zip ties that held the crate closed. The moment it popped open, a dog emerged.
“When I realized it was a Pitbull, my heart sank,” Stowe said.
What shocked Carla wasn’t simply that a dog had been abandoned in her yard. It was the cruel way someone had locked him inside a crate, sealed with tape and ties so he couldn’t escape.
What kind of world allows this?
What kind of person could do such a thing to an innocent animal?
The only stroke of luck for this poor pup was that he ended up at Carla’s home. If he had been left in an empty lot or, worse, in the yard of someone who despised animals, his fate could have been tragic.
The dog, a striking black-and-white Pitbull, was named RD. Carla quickly brought him to Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue in Paris, Texas.

At the shelter, RD began to adjust little by little. With each day he grew more comfortable around the staff and other animals.
Carla is certain that when the time is right, Baby Gunn’s will place him with someone who will love him exactly as he is, without prejudice.
According to WAF’s recent statistics, Pitbulls are among the most at-risk breeds. PETA even notes they are the most abused dogs in the world. WAF also reports that one out of four Americans admits to disliking Pitbulls.
It is a heartbreaking reality.
Let’s hope stories like RD’s become fewer and fewer, until one day they disappear completely.
