Every day, we’re reminded of the increasing number of stray pets, and we’re well aware that’s a man-made problem. All these stray pets used to have owners who left them to fend for themselves.
While spending their days on the streets and facing danger day after day, their future is uncertain. As they spend their time roaming, all they dream about is finding their place under the sun.
Our next story is about Kit, the stray dog whose dream of finding her forever family came true.
Health Issues
Kit, a Golden Retriever with a timid smile, was found wandering the streets. She was extremely underweight and she missed most of her fur on her stomach and chest due to terrible skin infections. Although she looks like a puppy, she is estimated to be 10 years old.
Thanks to Tattered Paws And Golden Hearts, a non-profit rescue organization, she was rescued and brought to Charlotte, North Carolina.
Lindsey Bandura, a registered nurse who also volunteers with TPGH, said that she was enchanted by Kit the moment she saw her.
“I had no intention of getting a fourth dog, but then I saw Kit. She wasn’t in the best shape, and being a senior dog, I knew she would be overlooked by many. I fell head over heels with her pictures, and I just knew we could give her a great home,” she says.
A Whole New Life
She took her home and gave her all the things Kit never had in her life… toys, treats, and most of all, a lot of love. Lindsey said that it was impossible to know how Kit ended up on the streets, but she assumed that a breeder discarded her when she could no longer fulfill her purpose.
One of Kit’s favorite things is grass, and whenever she’s near it, she can’t help herself and she starts rolling in it. When she goes for a walk with her mom and three furry siblings, they patiently wait and give her some time to roll in the front yard.
Kit also went to a vet for a thorough medical checkup. Just by looking at her skinny frame and worn out teeth, it was clear that she was neglected. The vet attributed her loss of fur to yeast infections she most likely battled for years.
On her first day in her new home, Kit was a little bit nervous. She needed some time to get used to the affection she was deprived of her entire life. In the video that went viral, Kit is seen smiling nervously and wagging her tail while sitting in her plush bed.
Her mom noticed that Kit smiled more when she approached her.
“I think her smile was a mix of emotions; I think she was both nervous, but also very happy for human attention.”
At first, she was both shy and cautious with her three furry siblings, but later, she got more comfortable.
Kit’s Transformation
Little by little, she succeeded in overcoming her shyness and blossomed into a sweet, confident girl. She made such progress, and according to her mom, she now commands the house.
“She is perfect. She is the sweetest, kindest, most well-behaved dog I have ever met. She isn’t bothered by anything… Every single person that meets her immediately falls in love. I am not sure how anyone could have given her up, but we are extremely lucky to have her. If she wasn’t ours, I’d be jealous,” Kit’s mom says.
While receiving treatments for skin and weight, Kit is having the time of her life with her family and her three furry siblings in their Charlotte home.
Her brother, Henry, a rescue dog himself, is delighted to have a great playmate in Kit, and the two of them share an Instagram account.
They happily posed for pictures while celebrating their freedom on the Fourth of July.
We are so happy that both Kit and her furry siblings are living the life of their dreams, and we are excited to follow their new adventures.
