When two rescue pit bulls arrived at their new foster home, they were both thrilled to finally be safe. But their journeys to a forever family would take very different paths.
An Anxious Wait

When a foster parent in California opens their home to a rescue dog, it is always an emotional journey. For one dedicated caretaker, that journey doubled when she prepared to welcome two pit bulls into her life.
The anticipation was high as she waited for the arrivals. She was feeling under the weather, but her excitement overshadowed her illness.
An incredibly kind volunteer had stepped up to help with the transport. This “absolute angel of a person” went straight to the airport to pick up one of the dogs, a sweet boy named Dodger, and bring him to his new foster home.
The Promise Of Safety

The moment the dogs arrived, the emotional weight of their rescue set in. The foster mom immediately felt a deep connection to them.
“I love him. I know. No, like, I love him,” she expressed, overwhelmed by the instant bond.
She made sure to comfort the dogs right away. Cradling them close, she gently reassured them, “You’re safe now, buddy.”
Settling Into A Real Home

The two pit bulls, Dodger and Eggnog, quickly realized they were in good hands. The stress of their past began to melt away.
Dodger proved to be a deeply affectionate dog. His foster mom affectionately asked him, “Dodger, do you like being held?” as he soaked up the attention.
Both dogs embraced their new environment with open paws. As their foster mom noted, Eggnog and Dodger were “both just so happy to be here.”
A Speedy Match For Eggnog

While both dogs were thriving, Eggnog’s journey to a forever home moved at lightning speed. His charming personality quickly caught someone’s eye.
In a wonderful turn of events, Eggnog’s adoption was finalized in just eight days. His foster mom had not only saved his life but also successfully connected him with his new family.
“Obviously, you saved him, but you also found his home,” someone told her. “They found him because of you.”
A Bittersweet Goodbye

Saying goodbye to a foster dog is never easy, even when it is for the best reason possible. The foster family had grown deeply attached in a very short time.
“We weren’t ready. We loved him so much,” his foster mom admitted as adoption day arrived.
Despite the tears, she handed Eggnog over to his new family with a full heart. “Enjoy him, sweetheart. Bye, buddy!” she called out as he headed off to his new life.
Dodger’s Turn Will Come

With Eggnog officially adopted, all focus shifted to Dodger. He was still waiting for his perfect match to come along.
His foster mom remains incredibly hopeful and dedicated to finding his forever family. She knows how special he is and is confident the right person is out there.
“I know the person is out there for Dodger,” she shared. “I just haven’t yet met them. And they just haven’t seen Dodger yet.”
Keeping Hope Alive

For now, Dodger is enjoying his time in foster care, showing off his playful and goofy side. He has fully made himself at home.
Whether he is snuggling up or playfully stealing items around the house, he keeps his foster mom smiling. “Dodgie! Dodgie, that’s my blankie!” she laughed as he played.
Dodger may not have found his forever home as quickly as his friend, but he is safe, loved, and happy. His perfect family is out there, and until they find him, he has exactly what he needs.
