Cholula, a devoted Pitbull mama to eight tiny pups, was one of those souls in need. After giving birth at a shelter in California, she was completely drained from the demands of nursing and motherhood—yet her love for her babies never faltered for a second.
Luckily, fate stepped in right when she needed it most. Cholula crossed paths with the most compassionate couple, and at just the right moment, they opened their hearts and home to give her the care she desperately deserved.
Cholula’s Strength Was Running Low
They say love makes us do wild things—and for Thomas and Alicia, a big-hearted couple from Los Angeles, California, that proved to be absolutely true.
Knowing that taking in nine dogs would mean chaotic days and sleepless nights, they didn’t hesitate. Their compassion outweighed the challenge, and they opened their home to Cholula and her babies.
“Love makes you do insane things. Please welcome mama Cholula, and babies Tapatia, Chili, Chipotle, Tabasco, Siracha, Valentina, Texas Pete, and Louisiana Crystal,” Thomas shared on Instagram.
Thanks to a partnership with Wallis Annenberg PetSpace, the couple brought the furry family home and turned their lives upside down—in the best way possible.
Thomas immediately transformed his office into a cozy puppy nursery, giving Cholula plenty of space to rest and care for her babies.
Though sweet and gentle, the mama dog was clearly drained. Nursing took a toll on her body. Some nights, Thomas had to lift her up and carry her to bed, as she was too tired to move.
A Journey of Love and Care
Despite the exhaustion, Cholula remained trusting and affectionate, allowing Thomas and Alicia to care for her and the pups without resistance.
For five weeks, they lovingly monitored every stage of the puppies’ growth. One by one, the babies opened their eyes, learned to crawl, and eventually started nibbling on solid food. The moment they were weaned, a noticeable shift came over Cholula.
She perked up. She played. And she finally got the chance to rest and spend more time with the couple and their resident dog, Ruby.
A New Chapter Begins
Cholula’s final days in foster care were pure joy.
With new energy, she romped through the yard with Ruby and her pups, soaking up sunshine and playtime after weeks of dedicated motherhood.
But that joy came with bittersweet goodbyes.
It was time for Cholula and her babies to move on and find their forever homes. Saying farewell was no easy task for Thomas and Alicia—especially after forming such a deep bond.
“She is perfect. And yes my heart is breaking but it will mend. And there will be another mama and puppies that we can help. And the cycle won’t break,” Thomas expressed on Instagram.
Cholula returned to Wallis Annenberg PetSpace, where she didn’t have to wait long for her dreams to come true.
Soon enough, the sweet mama was adopted by a loving couple who gave her the life she always deserved.
“Happy tails to our beautiful girls Piggy, Cholula, Jasmine and so many others who have waited patiently for their perfect forever home,” the PetSpace team shared.
Now the center of attention as the only dog in her new home, Cholula gets to enjoy all the love and cuddles in the world—something this resilient, loving mama has truly earned.
