Only Dojo knows how long he struggled to survive on the streets. Hungry, worn down, and completely alone, he wandered through Colton, California, searching for anything that might keep him going.
Eventually, he came across a local business where employees noticed his fragile condition and felt compelled to help.
The workers were heartbroken by how thin and exhausted he looked. They began leaving food out for him, and Dojo, drawn by both nourishment and kindness, continued returning to the business each day. He seemed to understand that this was one place where he would not be chased away.
Deeply moved by his suffering, the staff decided to reach out for help. They took a photo of Dojo and shared his story on Facebook, hoping someone in the rescue community would see it and step in before it was too late.
A Rescue Answered Without Delay

One of the people who saw the post was Tera, a dedicated animal lover from California. The moment she read about Dojo, she knew she had to act. She got into her car and drove straight to the location where he had last been seen.
When Tera arrived, the sight stopped her cold.
Dojo was curled up beneath a large sign for Pepe’s Towing Service, resting his head on his paws as he tried to conserve what little energy he had left. He looked small and vulnerable against the pavement.
Tera spoke softly to him, careful not to frighten him.
At the sound of her voice, Dojo slowly lifted his head. His eyes told a story of pain, exhaustion, and quiet hope.
Signs Of Severe Neglect

Dojo’s body was severely underweight and crawling with ticks.
Despite his condition, he managed to stand, clearly grateful that someone had finally come for him. His trust was immediate and unmistakable.
Tera knelt beside him, offering gentle affection before carefully placing a leash around his neck. He followed her without resistance.
As she looked him over more closely, she noticed a painful pressure sore along his back, another sign of how long he had been struggling.

She scanned him for a microchip, but none was found. Inside her van, something unexpected happened. Dojo wagged his tail for the first time. The simple motion felt monumental.
Tera was overwhelmed by the moment.
“He started wagging once I got him in my crate inside my van. He knows that he is now safe,” Tera wrote on TikTok.
She offered him a warm meal of chicken and rice, which he ate eagerly, as if proper food had been a rare luxury.
A Shocking Medical Discovery

Later that evening, Tera brought Dojo to the veterinarian for a thorough examination. An X-ray revealed a devastating reality. In his desperation to survive, Dojo had swallowed rocks and pieces of wire.
If his body is unable to pass them on its own, surgery may be required.
Thankfully, his bloodwork came back in good condition. Once the ticks were removed and he received treatment, Dojo visibly relaxed, as though some of his pain had finally eased.

After the vet visit, Tera welcomed Dojo into her home.
Almost immediately, he seemed to sense that he was finally somewhere safe. She gently bathed him, and although he was a bit nervous, he clearly appreciated the attention. He covered her with kisses, offering silent thanks.
Love Leo Rescue, based in Santa Monica, soon stepped in to guide Dojo’s recovery and placed him in a loving foster home. With consistent meals, medical support, and affection, he began to regain strength and confidence.

Once Dojo is fully healed, he will be ready to search for a forever family. After enduring so much hardship just to stay alive, he now deserves a life defined by comfort, security, and love.
