There’s nothing more heartwarming than watching a shelter dog finally find a forever family. But when that same pup is brought back almost immediately, the heartbreak is immeasurable.
This is exactly what happened in New Jersey, where one sweet dog’s adoption story took a shocking turn.
Burrito, a gentle pup who longed for a real home, thought his moment had finally arrived. But instead of love and stability, he faced another crushing disappointment.
Burrito’s Foster Speaks Out
Before his adoption, Burrito enjoyed a few wonderful weeks with his foster mom, Isabella. During that time, he was nothing but affectionate and calm.
When adoption day arrived, an older couple took him home from the South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter. But shockingly, within just two days, Burrito was returned.
The couple claimed he was “too aggressive” and said he had bitten the husband on the hand.
“This dog was returned to the shelter in less than 48 hours after he was adopted for biting and being aggressive,” Isabella explained in a TikTok video.
The news left Isabella stunned. How could a dog who spent two weeks snuggling and bonding suddenly become aggressive?

Determined to show Burrito’s true personality, Isabella filmed herself cuddling with him, highlighting just how gentle he really was.
“This is all he has done for the last two weeks. This is what we do,” she added.
Later, Isabella shared more details of what actually happened. According to the shelter, the bite occurred when Burrito resisted getting out of the car.
“They get home, he wouldn’t get out of the car. The husband reaches in the car, grabs Burrito, drags him out of the car. Burrito didn’t like that, bit him on the hand,” Isabella explained in a follow-up video.
Even though Burrito wasn’t particularly fond of her own father, Isabella said he never acted aggressively toward him. At most, he kept his distance, but nothing more.
A Fresh Chance At Peace
Being sent back to the shelter was difficult for Burrito. The noise and stress of a small kennel were overwhelming, especially after having a taste of freedom and love.
Thankfully, instead of being stuck in the shelter again, Burrito was moved into the care of a long-term behavioral foster.
He’s currently not available for adoption while he decompresses, but the good news is he’ll still get to enjoy the comfort of a home. With time, patience, and the right people, Burrito will surely find the forever family he deserves.
