Seeing a pet abandoned is upsetting in any situation, but what happened in Arizona left people especially shaken.
A video shared online showed a woman driving a red SUV through a quiet cul de sac in Surprise, Arizona. Nothing about the scene seemed unusual at first, until the vehicle turned and the back door opened.
Then a small black-and-white dog was put out onto the street.
He stood there stunned, suddenly alone in a place he did not understand, while the person who had brought him there prepared to leave.
Before driving away, the woman said, “bye bye.”
That cold goodbye made the moment even harder to watch. One second, the little dog was inside the vehicle. The next, he was standing in the road, left behind with no explanation and no one beside him.
A Bystander Takes Action
Despite the harsh treatment, the dog instinctively ran after the vehicle, desperate for his owner to turn back and reconsider. That afternoon, Joanna Buesen was walking her dog when she witnessed the heartbreaking moment.
“I was angered. I was flabbergasted, shocked. Just so many emotions,” she told Arizona Family.
Seeing the abandoned dog, still trying to follow the person who had just left him, Buesen called out to him with kindness.
Upon hearing her voice, the scared pup ran toward her, seeking safety and comfort.
Buesen took the dog home, gave him food, and made sure he felt secure. Animal control arrived soon after to care for the dog.
Shaken by the incident, Buesen condemned the woman’s cruel actions, particularly the cold farewell caught on camera.
“I think that they had no remorse for their actions, and I think that is the telltale that it is malicious intent. I understand things are hard and things can be tough in life, but you don’t have to be a soulless human. And that is just a soulless thing,” Buesen said.
Authorities Investigate The Case
Local authorities quickly became involved after the video was reported.
The SUV’s license plate was clearly visible, giving law enforcement a solid lead.
FOX 10 Phoenix later reported that the individuals responsible were identified. A man and a woman, who were the dog’s owners, came forward and are now facing charges for animal cruelty.
The dog was taken to a nearby shelter, where he will soon be available for adoption. With hope, this brave dog will find a loving home, where he will finally receive the care and protection he deserves.
