For 13 years, a sweet dog named Eddy knew only one family and one home.

But in his golden years, everything he knew suddenly disappeared.

The blind senior was dropped off at a local California shelter, leaving him visibly confused and entirely unsure of what to do.

Without his sight, he only knew that he was in a loud, scary place he had never been before.

Eddy’s time at the shelter was terrifying, but his story quickly caught the attention of someone who could help.

When Lisa from the rescue group Frankie, Lola and Friends saw videos of Eddy online, her heart shattered.

She knew she couldn’t leave a vulnerable senior dog in such a stressful environment.

Lisa immediately pulled him from the shelter to get him safely into a foster home.

The moment Eddy stepped out of the loud shelter, he could sense that his life was changing for the better.

His rescuer gently reassured him, letting him take in all the new smells of freedom.

“You’re safe,” she told him, knowing the loud noises were finally behind him.

He was welcomed into a foster home filled with other dogs waiting for their forever families.

Learning From The Pack

Despite being blind and a senior, Eddy’s friendly nature shined through immediately.

He was incredibly thankful to have other dogs around to learn from and lean on.

For the first couple of days, however, he just needed to rest.

He spent hours sleeping off the heavy stress and exhaustion of his time at the shelter.

When Eddy finally woke up from his long rest, he proved he was an old dog more than ready to learn new tricks.

Without the ability to see, he bravely began to figure out the layout of his new environment.

His foster family gently guided him, encouraging him as he learned the lay of the land.

He soon learned how to navigate steps and walk confidently alongside his new pack.

A Joyful First Discovery

As Eddy grew more comfortable, his playful side finally began to emerge.

At the age of 13, he experienced a delightful first: he learned what a squeaky toy was.

Hearing the high-pitched sound brought a spark of youthful joy back into the senior dog’s life.

It was a beautiful sign that his spirit was entirely unbroken.

Addressing His Pain

Eddy clearly had so much love left in him for a forever family, but he wasn’t quite ready for adoption yet.

His foster family realized he had to take care of two important things before he could start looking for a home.

First, he desperately needed a proper grooming session to clean up his coat.

More importantly, one of his eyes was causing him a lot of problems and extreme pain.

A Fresh New Look

The grooming was the easiest part of his transformation.

After a good wash and a trim, the handsome senior looked like a brand new dog.

His foster family lovingly joked about his cute “Mr. Rat Tail” as he showed off his fresh look.

With his coat cleaned up, it was time to tackle his medical needs.

Relief And A New Outlook

To address his ongoing eye problems, the veterinarian determined that Eddy needed surgery to have one of his eyes removed.

The surgery was a success, and the problematic eye was finally gone.

Once he recovered, the change in his demeanor was incredible.

Without the chronic pain, he became an even happier, more loving, and easygoing dog.

Today, Eddy is thriving in his foster home and has proven to be the perfect little travel partner.

He may be a senior boy, but he has an endless amount of affection left to give.

His rescue team is now searching for a family looking for a low-maintenance, high-love companion.

After losing everything at 13, this sweet boy is finally ready to find the forever home he truly deserves.
