California Doberman Was Severely Overweight, But One Look At Her Foster Dad Changed Everything
Jenny the California Doberman was struggling with severe weight issues and an underactive thyroid. But with a dedicated foster family and a lot of love, she transformed into the dog she was always meant to be.
A Heavy Burden
When the team at Wags and Walks in California first laid eyes on Jenny, they were taken aback. They had never seen a Doberman as severely overweight as she was.
While it is unfortunately not uncommon to see dogs struggling with their weight in the California rescue world, Jenny’s case was especially extreme.
It was clear that she was carrying a heavy physical burden, and the rescue knew they had to step in and help her.
An Instant Shift
Despite her physical limitations, Jenny’s spirit was far from broken.
The moment the Wags team took her out of her kennel, they noticed an instant change in her demeanor.
She happily waddled around, eager to greet everyone she met. Slowly but surely, little glimpses of her goofy, loving personality started to shine through.

To truly heal, Jenny needed a comfortable place to rest and a dedicated caregiver. That is when she found her foster family.

She looked up at him with what could only be described as “dreamy heart eyes,” instantly knowing she was in safe hands.
The Medical Plan
In her new foster home, Jenny’s parents were determined to help her heal both emotionally and physically.
They worked closely with a medical team to uncover the root of her struggles, discovering that she had an underactive thyroid.
Together, they came up with a comprehensive plan that included a carefully proportioned diet, daily exercise, and the necessary thyroid medication.
Celebrating Milestones
As the weeks went by, Jenny’s hard work began to pay off. Her foster family celebrated every little milestone with her.
In one sweet moment, they even sang “Happy day before birthday to you” as she continued to make progress.
But her transformation went far beyond what the scale was showing. As Jenny grew physically stronger, her inner confidence blossomed.

What had started off as a temporary foster situation was quickly becoming something much bigger.
As Jenny’s foster parents watched her get her life back and rediscover her joy, they realized they were falling completely in love with her.

Today, Jenny’s transformation is nothing short of incredible. She has lost over 25 pounds and looks like a completely different dog.
She has finally blossomed into the happy, healthy Doberman she was always meant to be.
Best of all, her temporary foster home became her permanent one. Thanks to the family who refused to give up on her, Jenny will never have to wonder where home is again.
