California Woman Finds A German Shepherd Puppy Rejected For His Unusual Leg, Then Makes A Life-Changing Decision
Born with a rare genetic disorder, Rocky was discarded by a California backyard breeder. Fortunately, one woman saw his photo and changed his life forever.
A Unique Way Of Sleeping

When Rocky, a California dog, settles down for a nap, he often ends up in some rather funny positions. Unlike most dogs who curl up into a tight little ball, Rocky has one leg that simply refuses to bend.
Because he can’t bend his leg, it sticks straight out when he sleeps. It’s an adorable quirk, but it stems from a permanent medical condition.
Rocky was born with a rare genetic disorder that affects his bone structure. Essentially, he has a straight bone in his leg that simply does not have the ability to bend.
There is no surgery or medical procedure that can fix it. He will always have what is known as straight leg syndrome.
Discarded For Being Different

While his unique leg makes him incredibly endearing to those who love him, the people who brought him into the world didn’t see it that way.
Rocky was originally in the hands of a backyard breeder. When they realized he had a disability, they decided they no longer wanted him.
The breeders had never seen anything like his condition before. Because he wasn’t “perfect,” he was dropped off and left without a family.
But Rocky’s story was far from over. His difference was about to become the very thing that caught someone’s eye.
A Shattered Heart

One day, a woman was scrolling through her Instagram feed when Rocky’s photo suddenly appeared on her screen.
Seeing the sweet dog with the straight leg looking for a home stopped her in her tracks. “My heart literally shattered,” she recalled.
She knew immediately that she had to help this special boy. She couldn’t stand the thought of him waiting in a clinic without a family of his own.
Just 24 hours after seeing his post on social media, she arrived at the vet’s office to pick him up.
The First Night Home

When she finally loaded Rocky into her car to take him home, the sweet dog was understandably nervous.
He showed a little bit of anxiety during the ride, likely unsure of where he was going or who this new person was.
But once they arrived at her house, the exhaustion of his ordeal caught up with him. The first night, he was incredibly tired.
He slept through the entire night, finally resting in a safe, quiet place. When he woke up, it was time to start getting to know his new family.
Healing In The Water

Even though Rocky’s leg cannot be surgically fixed, his new mom wanted to make sure he was as comfortable and healthy as possible.
She enrolled him in physical therapy to help manage his condition. Twice a week, Rocky visits a specialized rehab facility.
During his sessions, he participates in water therapy and even receives acupuncture treatments.
Far from being scared of the treatments, Rocky absolutely loves his time at the rehab center.
Getting Stronger Every Day

The dedication to his physical therapy is paying off beautifully. The treatments really help him feel better and move more comfortably.
His mom proudly notes that he is “literally doing so, so good.” With each passing week, Rocky’s confidence grows.
He is getting stronger every single day, proving that a little extra care goes a long way for a special needs dog.
His straight leg doesn’t hold him back from enjoying his new, pampered life.
Expressive Little Ears

As Rocky settled into his new home, his true personality began to shine through. His mom insists that his straight leg doesn’t affect his joyful spirit at all.
In fact, she lovingly refers to his condition as “cute leg syndrome.” She believes it’s the most special thing about him.
Beyond his unique leg, Rocky has incredibly expressive ears that do all sorts of funny things depending on his mood.
When he gets excited, his fur goes up and his ears pin straight back, giving him an adorable, aerodynamic look.
A Very Special Bond

Today, Rocky and his mom share an incredibly deep connection. He is a total “mama’s boy” who hates to be away from her.
Whenever she has to leave the house, Rocky will patiently sit right by the front door, waiting for her to return.
When she finally walks back inside, his ears go back and he greets her with pure, uncontained joy.
“We feel very lucky that he’s ours, and we hope he feels lucky, too,” she says. For a dog once discarded for being different, Rocky has finally found exactly where he belongs.
