When a sweet neighbor dog named Bella started sneaking through a hole in the fence every day, her new friends didn’t realize she was healing a broken heart.
A Familiar Face In The Neighborhood
She would just come through the little hole in the fence in the back of the yard in California.
Bella was a familiar face in the neighborhood. People would see her walking around, and she often popped up in the local Facebook group as neighbors asked, “Whose dog is this?”
But soon, she found a favorite spot to spend her days. She started coming over to one particular yard on a daily basis, especially during the week.
Making Herself At Home
The neighbors introduced themselves to Bella’s owners so they knew where she was hanging out during the day.
They were shocked at how quickly she got comfortable. By the second day, she was rolling over on her back, asking for tummy rubs.
She was choosing to be there all the time. Even though she had a home and a family, she just wasn’t getting the attention she deserved.
Morning Coffee And Patio Sleepovers
Sometimes, she wouldn’t want to go home at night. She would spend the entire night sleeping on the back patio.
When morning came, she was right there, ready to greet them for morning coffee.
Over the course of the summer, Bella became more attached to them, and they became more attached to her.

At the end of May 2025, the couple had to make the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye to their 17-year-old dog, Dooney.

Watching the two of them bond was an amazing feeling. But they were always a little sad when Bella had to leave their yard.

Seth would look toward the fence, wondering, “Is she gonna come over today?”

Finally, she would come over, and it was like sunshine and happiness all over again.
She would arrive dirty from sneaking over, shaking with excitement to see them.

Then, out of nowhere, the previous owner texted Crystal. They said they were moving and asked if they would mind watching Bella for a while while they got situated.
The couple immediately agreed. “Absolutely. We would love to watch her.”
During that time, they were a perfect little family together. But days passed, and the owners never reached out or asked about her.

They finally decided to ask if they could adopt her. After weeks of waiting to hear back, Bella’s owners agreed.
She officially became theirs on November 13th, 2025, and they haven’t looked back since.
