When a professional kitesurfer adopted a former street dog, he just wanted to give her a good life. He never imagined she would want to join him out on the waves.
A World Away
Before she ever felt the California sand beneath her paws, this sweet dog lived a very different life. She was originally found wandering the cold streets of Russia, far away from the sunny beaches she would eventually call home.
Her future owner didn’t know much about her past or what she had been through. He only knew that she needed a second chance and a safe place to land.
When the day finally came to bring her home, he drove straight to the airport to pick her up. It was the beginning of a beautiful new chapter for them both.
Straight to the Sand
The moment he picked her up from the airport, their connection was undeniable. “We were, like, best friends from the start,” he recalled.
Instead of heading straight home, he decided to take her right to the beach. He wanted to introduce her to his favorite place in the world.
He kept her on a leash at first, unsure of how she would react to the open space. But from the very beginning, she proved that she never wanted to leave his side.
Fascinated by the Sky
It didn’t take long for the rescue dog to notice the colorful shapes flying above the water. As a professional kitesurfer, her owner spent countless hours at the beach, and she was always eager to tag along.
“As soon as she sees the kites, she gets super excited,” he shared. Her tail would wag, and she would watch the sky with pure joy.
Whenever he prepared his gear, she would run alongside him. She was fascinated by the equipment and the energy of the sport.
Wanting to Join In
When they went to the beach, she didn’t just want to sit on the sand and wait. She would start running with him as he headed toward the water.
She would even try to jump on his board while it was still on the ground. It was as if she was trying to tell him that she wanted to be part of the action.
“It feels like we’re sharing the same passion,” he noted. Her enthusiasm for his sport was entirely unexpected, but incredibly endearing.
A Swim in the Lagoon
After having her for about two or three weeks, he decided to take her to a calm lagoon. It was a safe spot where she could see him the entire time he was on the water.
As he glided across the lagoon, he looked back and realized she wasn’t staying on the shore. She wanted to follow him so badly that she waded into the water.
She actually went swimming right after him, paddling hard to catch up to his board. Her determination to stay close to him was heartwarming.
A Leap of Faith
Seeing her swim after him gave him an idea. He had a good feeling about her calm demeanor and her obvious desire to be with him.
“What if I lift her up and I just put her on top of me and see if she wants to come?” he thought to himself. It was a spontaneous decision, but one built on absolute trust.
He carefully scooped her out of the water and placed her on the board. He waited to see how she would react to the movement and the waves.
Enjoying the Ride
To his complete surprise, she didn’t panic or try to jump off. Instead, she settled right in, looking incredibly happy.
“She just stayed,” he said, amazed by her bravery. “I could tell from everything that she was doing that she was enjoying it so much.”
She stood confidently on the board, looking around and taking in the beautiful view. It was a magical moment for both of them.
An Unbreakable Bond
Today, the former street dog is a seasoned kitesurfing companion. They share a unique hobby that brings them closer together every time they hit the water.
“It’s such a special bond we have,” her owner shared. “Wherever I go, she follows.”
From the lonely streets of Russia to riding the waves with her favorite person, she finally has the life she deserves. “She feels a bit like she’s my child,” he said. “She’s my everything.”
