When local residents discovered a mother cat and her kittens tucked deep in the Mississippi woods, they tried everything they could think of to help them.
They made sure the mama cat had food and kept showing up for her, but reaching the kittens was another story. The little ones were hidden too far inside the thick woods, making it impossible to safely catch them despite everyone’s best efforts.
Eventually, word about the struggling cat family reached Avery Hood and Andrea Moore, two caring women known for helping stray cats in the area. As soon as they heard what was happening, they did not waste a moment. They headed straight into the woods, determined to find the mama cat and her babies.
The Wary Mother Cat

Despite Hood and Moore’s good intentions, the mother cat remained extremely cautious and refused to cooperate.
“I jokingly told [the mama] to bring me her babies, but didn’t think she would,” Hood told The Dodo.
Hoping the family would be rescued soon, Hood returned home, but the mama and her kittens remained on her mind. She did not anticipate the heartwarming surprise that awaited her.
On Labor Day, when Hood opened her door, she was astonished to see the mother cat calmly gazing at her. She greeted the cat and stepped into her car. The moment she turned the key, a tiny black kitten darted from between the two front tires.
Alarmed, Hood opened the car hood and discovered two more kittens curled up safely in the engine compartment.

When Hood scooped up the kittens, they meowed in protest, startled by the sudden movement. At first, Hood saw only two kittens and feared that the remaining ones had been injured while crossing the busy road from the woods.
Fortunately, she soon realized all four kittens had been safely inside the engine, bringing a sense of relief. A neighbor later found another kitten wandering nearby.
“We just kept finding them,” Hood added.
The Cat Family Is Safely Reunited

Hood successfully captured the mother cat and three of her kittens, bringing them into her home. She set up the mother cat in her bathroom and provided her with delicious snacks, noting the cat’s anxious behavior as she worried about her babies.
Once the mother was reunited with her kittens, she began to relax. Hood was determined to rescue the remaining kittens, setting up a humane trap with appealing food inside.
Her rescue efforts were ultimately successful, securing the remaining three kittens.
“It took 12 hours and a live trap to catch all 7 cats,” Hood wrote in a post on Reddit.

Hood marveled at the mother cat’s strength and perseverance. Although she was thin and under a year old, she had carefully protected her kittens and brought them directly to Hood, seeking help herself.
A Fresh Start For The Family

The cat family spent the following days comfortably resting in Hood’s bathtub, snuggling together and playing with toys, free from the stress of their previous ordeal.
Hood took them to the veterinarian, where they were all given a clean bill of health. Of the six kittens, estimated to be about nine weeks old, only one had a minor scratch on its forehead.
The kittens continued to grow and show unique personalities, while the mother cat relaxed and began to trust Hood completely.

Soon, the resilient kittens will be placed in a shelter and start their journey toward permanent homes.
Thanks to the dedication of the rescuers and the brave mother cat, this feline family received a well-deserved second chance at love and safety.
We wish them all the best!
