Sadly, many are left trying to make sense of being abandoned by the same people they once trusted. They sit there frightened and confused, carrying a heartbreak they never should have had to feel.
Gizmo was one of them.
The little pup had been left in an industrial area with no comfort around him. He curled up on the cold pavement, unsure why he had been abandoned and unsure whether anyone would come.

Rescuers Alex Babcock and Katie McKittrick soon arrived. McKittrick knelt beside Gizmo and gently stroked his head, offering calm words and patience.
Even though he kept his gaze lowered, his entire body reflected how abandoned he felt.
They set down a small meal, and Gizmo ate hungrily. Once he was settled, they slipped a leash around his neck and guided him into a crate.
Relief washed over everyone. Gizmo would no longer shiver through cold nights or search for scraps to survive.
As they drove away, his expression began to brighten. It was as if he sensed that his life was finally moving in the right direction.
Back at the rescue, Babcock and McKittrick showered Gizmo with affection.
Soon, however, they noticed that something seemed wrong. Gizmo barked excessively, spun in circles, and chased his tail with alarming intensity.
Concerned for his well-being, they took him to a veterinarian for X-rays. The scans revealed a fractured area in his tail. Surgery was required, and part of one vertebra had to be removed.
Thanks to the skilled medical team, the procedure went well, and Gizmo began his path to healing.
A Future Filled With Joy
After his surgery, Gizmo was placed under the care of Much Love Animal Rescue, another nonprofit based in Los Angeles.
They found him a foster home where he could rest, recover, and experience what it felt like to be cherished.
With consistent love and gentle encouragement, Gizmo transformed. His timid posture shifted into playful confidence, and his tail wagged freely once again.
Not long after, the rescue received an adoption application from a family who instantly fell for Gizmo’s sweet personality. They welcomed him into their home with open arms, giving him the life he had been yearning for.
Today, the once-abandoned puppy is a joyful companion whose eyes shine with happiness. His journey shows how powerful compassion can be when people choose to step in instead of turning away.
