After years of hardship, South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter stepped in and gave her the lifeline she needed.
A Foster Home Full of Hope
As the holiday season approached, Haley Jeannotte wanted to make a difference by fostering a dog. She connected with a New Jersey rescue and found Orca waiting for her.
From the moment Haley laid eyes on her, she sensed that Orca was the dog who needed her the most.
The details of her past confirmed it: abandoned at the shelter without paperwork, suffering from ear infections and severe malnutrition.
Her frail condition suggested a life spent mostly outdoors, likely producing between six and ten litters before being discarded once she was no longer “useful.”
Haley’s heart ached for her.
Without hesitation, she brought Orca home, determined to offer the warmth, comfort, and love that had always been denied to her.
A Surprise That Changed Everything
Under Haley’s care, Orca began to heal, yet a layer of caution remained, a natural response to her past. Haley grew attached quickly, and it became clear she wanted to make the foster arrangement permanent.

The delivery went smoothly, and Orca gave birth to a single puppy, whom Haley named Kylo. At first, she debated whether she could manage raising both, considering fostering the pup separately.
