Where The Love Is, Inc. Animal Rescue in Hamden, Connecticut, has welcomed so many dogs who were simply looking for a little safety, warmth, and someone kind enough to care.
The rescue gives them a place to stay while the team pours its heart into finding each dog a family ready to love them properly. As time passed, dogs kept arriving and leaving again, often settling into homes almost as quickly as they came through the door.
Every dog seemed to get that happy turn.
Except Bones.
Even dogs who arrived well after him were scooped up by families, while Bones remained at the rescue, waiting and still quietly hoping his moment would come.
The staff refused to let discouragement win. They believed in him completely, and their goal never changed. Bones was going to find the home he deserved, and they were not giving up until that happened.
Meet Bones, A Fighter With Heart

Bones was discovered roaming the streets of Texas, hoping someone would stop and help him.
He earned the name ‘Bones’ because when he was rescued, he was so thin that people said he looked like “skin and bones.”
It took time for him to recover and gain strength. Once he was healthy enough to travel, he was brought to Where The Love Is Rescue in Hamden, Connecticut.
The goal was to find him a safe, permanent home filled with love.
From the moment Bones stepped into the shelter, it was clear he was one of a kind.
But finding the right match for Bones turned out to be far more difficult than anyone expected.

Bones was affectionate, playful, and gentle. But being a large, male Pitbull mix made it harder for him to be adopted.
Days turned into months. Months stretched into years. Bones remained at the shelter, still hoping for a family.
Though he was deeply cherished by the staff, they knew that a shelter could never replace the warmth of a real home. They did everything they could to make his dream come true.
This is what the shelter wrote about Bones on their social media:
“He is adored by our volunteers, great with people and friendly to everyone. He wants nothing more than to be close to you to receive (and give big kisses). Bones loves toys and is never without his heavy-duty, black rubber bone.”

Even after a kind donor covered his adoption fee, Bones still hadn’t found the right match.
Finally, A Family Of His Own
The shelter went above and beyond to help Bones find a home. They took him on outings to meet new people. They brought him along for toy shopping trips and made sure he was part of every adoption event.
The shelter also made several videos showcasing Bones and his amazing personality, and even partnered with local creators to help spread the word.
They never gave up, and their persistence paid off: Bones was finally adopted.

The shelter shared the amazing news on Facebook:
“Bones is home! After almost 3 years of waiting for his forever family, Bones was adopted by Adell and his son earlier this month. While Bones will be missed by everyone at the shelter who had the pleasure of knowing him, we are all thrilled and grateful for Adell’s love and support for our boy.”
All Bones ever wanted was a home and someone to love him. After nearly three years, his wish was granted.

Bones is now thriving in his new home.
When it came time to part ways with the volunteers who had been his family for so long, Bones stood at the window with a wide smile, as if to say, “thank you for never giving up on me.”
His story proves that sometimes, the best things really do come to those who wait.
