Texas Woman Scooped Up A Scared Puppy After Seeing Someone Try To Chase Her Away

Arleth Martinez came home to Baytown, Texas, after a long shift, expecting the usual quiet at the end of the day. Instead, something by her trash can stopped her cold.

A tiny white puppy was curled beside it, pressed close against the cold and trying to find any scrap of warmth or comfort near the discarded garbage.

When Martinez stepped closer, the puppy slowly lifted her head. Her tired eyes were sad and quietly pleading as she looked right at her.

Martinez’s heart broke in that moment. She understood that the little dog, later named Milly, had been left behind and was trying her hardest to survive alone.

Showing A Little Kindness

Although Milly had clearly been let down by people before, she quickly trusted Martinez. It was as if she sensed compassion in her voice and presence.

As Martinez tried to figure out how to help, she noticed something upsetting, a neighbor throwing ice at the frightened puppy, trying to chase her away.

The cruel act left Martinez both heartbroken and angry. She gently scooped up Milly and brought her inside, promising that she would be safe from that moment on.

Determined to help, Martinez posted Milly’s photo online, hoping someone might step forward to offer her a loving home.

Soon, Three Little Pitties Rescue, a Houston-based organization, came across the post and decided to step in.

They arranged for Milly to be taken to a veterinary clinic, where she received the care and attention she desperately needed.

At the clinic, Milly was dewormed and given preventative treatments for fleas and heartworms. Veterinarians estimated she was about five months old.

Her caregivers assured her that she was finally in good hands, and with each passing day, Milly began to relax and trust more deeply.

A Fresh Start In Foster Care

Before long, Milly moved into a foster home, where she could experience love and comfort in a calm environment.

Her foster family showered her with affection, helping her rediscover her playful and gentle nature.

She enjoyed playing with her toys, but her favorite thing of all was curling up close to her foster parents.

“Milly is a very gentle player that appreciates treats and cuddles. She will let you know with a gentle paw that she also enjoys belly rubs and chest scratches. And ear scratches…” the rescue wrote in her adoption profile.

Although she’s content in her foster home, Milly is still waiting for her forever family, the one that will love her unconditionally.

The rescue team believes she will make the perfect companion. Friendly and outgoing, Milly greets everyone with joy.

“Strangers? What are those? To Milly, everybody is a new best buddy, capable of delivering pets and love,” the rescue added.

Until her forever family comes along, Milly continues to thrive under her foster’s care, finally knowing she’s safe.

She will never again have to curl up beside a trash can for warmth or hope someone might stop to help.

Milly’s story is one of resilience, kindness, and second chances, and soon, she’ll find the loving home she’s always deserved.
