Texas Rescue Takes In A 5-Pound Senior Dog On The Edge, Then Encounters A Heart-Stirring Surprise

Texas Rescue Takes In A 5-Pound Senior Dog On The Edge, Then Encounters A Heart-Stirring Surprise

All dogs should have a loving home and humans who love them to the moon and back.

The dogs’ breed, age, color, and size should never determine whether a dog gets to feel safe or loved.

Sadly, sometimes dogs live a hard life deprived of love and proper care.

Snoots was one of the dogs who urgently needed care. He was malnourished and exhausted when he arrived at Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) in Texas.

The staff feared the worst.

Nobody knew what would happen next.

A Fragile Beginning

The twelve-year-old Chihuahua mix looked defeated. He weighed only 5 pounds and seemed overwhelmed by his difficult past.

He was in bad shape. Apart from being exhausted, he also had painful dental disease.

The team was determined to give him the comfort he needed. They worried they had found him too late.

They provided him medical care and gave him delicious food.

When the staff visited Snoots in the morning, they were surprised.

Snoots was standing at his kennel door, looking up at the staff as if he wanted to greet them. He was more relaxed and almost relieved. His sudden spark lifted everyone’s spirits.

Although he had gone through quite an ordeal, he leaned into the staff and asked for affection. It didn’t take long for him to become known as a “total sweetie pie.”

A video of him posted online touched people far beyond Austin.

A Second Chance At Love

The shelter staff began hoping that Snoots would find a loving home.

“While we don’t know how much time Snoots has left,” APA! wrote on Facebook, “we know he deserves the opportunity to feel love all the way to the end.”

On September 25, just three days after the pup arrived, the shelter announced that they found the ideal place for him.

Snoots moved into a hospice foster home.

The dog breathed a sigh of relief. He finally had soft blankets all to himself and a place where he could enjoy the comfort of a home.

His care was supported by a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization, which helps senior dogs receive medical treatment and hospice support.

Austin Pets Alive! made sure Snoots had everything he needed to enjoy the time he had left. The shelter shared how deeply they believed that every animal, no matter their age, deserves to feel kindness.

Snoots’ story became more wonderful when Maddie from @theseniordogsquad reached out, wishing to adopt him. She wanted him to know what it felt like to belong.

And just like that, Snoots found a permanent home, and he couldn’t be happier.

Because of the devoted team in Texas and the kindness of his new family, Snoots got a second shot at life.
