Whenever you decide to foster a senior pup, you brace yourself for the worst. Some even look so fragile, barely lift their heads, and hardly move from their beds, as if saying: “I’m tired.” And yet, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing one such pup get a cozy home in their final days.
Joey, a senior Washington pup, was one such dog. When he first landed in foster care, he looked like he could fade away any day. He only had one tooth, was partially blind, and almost completely deaf, so his mom slowly prepared herself for a gentle goodbye.
But then, Joey took everyone by surprise. He had a wild twist planned, and it soon turned heartbreak into hysterical laughter!
Joey The Resilient Boi

When Billie Wensveen, a foster with Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue (MCCR) in Washington, first met Joey, she braced herself for heartbreak.
Joey had been found abandoned in a car and taken to animal control. Fortunately, he was soon transferred as an emergency intake to MCCR.
Everything about him looked fragile. He was around thirteen years old, had a ruptured eye, and looked like a dog who had endured far too much.

But as it turned out, Joey still had life in him, and he made it his mission to prove it.
Recently, Billie decided to share a hilarious video on her TikTok, featuring Joey suddenly transforming into a pint-sized missile. Why? He was chasing chickens!
“I didn’t think this old Boy ever had it in him but here we are. We learned today our foster dog Joey is not a big fan of chickens,” Billie wrote in the video description.
The video shows Joey sprinting after chickens with wild determination, with Billie shouting “Joey! Joey!”
Needless to say, the viewers instantly fell head over heels for this hilarious old boi. Before long, the video garnered thousands of likes and was flooded with hilarious comments.
“So you have a chicken herding Chihuahua,” one person joked.
Another person shared their own similar experience: “Same thing happened to me!!! Adopted this guy at 13. He was real slow moving and malnourished at the time so I didn’t have a leash on him when I took him to my parents. OFF he went after a chicken. A fond memory of him now that he’s gone.”
Living His Comfy Little Life

It’s safe to say that Joey fit into Billie’s home incredibly well. Even though he can barely see and hear, he seems like a genuinely happy dog. He loves to sleep, eat, snuggle, and is surprisingly active around his two-year-old Chihuahua sibling.
And now, of course, he occasionally chases chickens, just to remind himself that “he’s still got it!”
But most importantly, Joey is not alone anymore. He now has a whole community cheering on his incredible comeback. His past may have been rough, but his present finally looks like the one he always deserved.
