In some dog stories, you can literally feel the heartbreak through the screen. I’ve seen pups confused after being surrendered, but nothing prepares you for the look of a pup who thought she’d already found a forever home. That kind of loss sticks with you for a long time.
After six long years in a loving home, all Roxy, the sweetest pup, knew was gone overnight.
To make things worse, it wasn’t because she did something wrong. And it definitely wasn’t because she wasn’t loved. One day, Roxy’s world simply changed in a way she couldn’t understand.
Surrendered Through No Fault Of Her Own
When staff at the Hotel for Homeless Dogs (HFHD), in Rhode Island, found out about Roxy, a dog who desperately needed help, they didn’t hesitate. They immediately stepped in and offered to help.
Roxy, originally adopted from a shelter in Georgia as a puppy, lived a wonderful life in her new home. For six years, she knew nothing but love. She had the life every shelter dog dreams of.
But everything changed in an instant.
“This is Roxy. For 6 years all she knew was love and a home and one day her world tragically turned upside down,” the Rhode Island rescue wrote in a heartbreaking TikTok post.
As it turned out, Roxy’s owner suddenly passed away, leaving the dog’s heart shattered.
With no one prepared to take her in, Roxy was returned to the same Georgia shelter.
“Adopted from a shelter in Georgia, just a tiny frail puppy, her life was going to be perfect. And it was… She had the best most loving home for 6 years. Then one day her owner fell ill and passed away. Her owner’s family brought her back to the shelter she came from. She waited, shut down and terrified until we made the call to get her to the Hotel,” HFHD explained.
The video shows Roxy standing in her kennel, completely shut down and unsure of where she was.
She was confused, nervous, and definitely heartbroken. But thanks to the HFHD team, she didn’t have to stay there for long.
Before long, Roxy was placed into a nice foster home, where she began her healing process.
Roxy Just Wants To Be Loved
Roxy’s foster family helped her rescuers learn more about the sweet dog behind the heartbreak, and the update warmed everyone’s hearts.
According to her temporary family, Roxy is affectionate, housebroken, and gets along with other dogs just fine.
“Roxy is dog-friendly, loves people and would love a home again,” HFHD wrote.
The pup thrives with routine and structure, evidently something she had for years in her previous home. And now, she’s on the path to finding a new one.
When the time is right, Roxy will be available for adoption. She may have faced a major loss in her young life, but one thing is for sure: her heart is still open.
Roxy deserves the family who will love her forever.
